Job summary

HOLT CAT is seeking a Technology Specialist I to install, calibrate, and troubleshoot advanced surveying and machine-infrastructure technology on heavy equipment. You will train customers on laser, GPS, UTS systems and related software, while ensuring accurate data handling and site calibrations.

The role requires diagnosing electrical and CAN networks, coordinating with teams, and maintaining productive customer relationships. Travel and safety adherence are essential.

Qualifications

Overview

The Technology Specialist I installs, repairs, upgrades, calibrates, and troubleshoots current and future technology products. In addition, this position trains customers on all levels of survey infrastructure products and machine technology.

Responsibilities

• Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT's Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to align with our Vision, Values, and Mission.
• Demonstrates technology products and recommends the best technology solutions for each customer application.
• Installs laser, GPS, and Universal Total Station (UTS) systems on all makes and models of heavy equipment and sets up correctional GPS sources (Base Stations, Internet Base Station Service (IBSS), or Virtual Reference Station (VRS)).
• Teaches customers and employees on effective utilization of the technology products to optimize productivity and monitor machine health (Laser, GPS, UTS, Infrastructure, Survey Products, Site Calibrations, File Management, VisionLink, Winflash).
• Coordinates with manager to develop a product database to assist in troubleshooting and works with other departments to ensure customer needs are met.
• Creates and initiates machine communications with back office for downloading/uploading models and surface data information.
• Troubleshoots electrical systems, CAN and Ethernet networks, and hydraulic systems, documenting the process.
• Performs system testing with sample/live data and technology.
• Maintains and improves current technology.
• Verifies site calibrations using proper survey techniques and troubleshoots using the same.
• Works with various programs (MAS, SiSweb, ET, Business Center, Trimble Connected Community, Veda, Trimble Store).
• Installs, measures up, calibrates Earthworks platforms on all models and machine brands of supported machines using robotic total stations and survey products.
• Performs application calibrations, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and problem resolution.
• Serves as a multidisciplinary technician testing, diagnosing, repairing, and adjusting electronic and optical equipment.
• Utilizes Business Center software to update customer files, check for modeling errors, and verify data.
• Trains customers on CAT integrated technology products.
• Pulls and prepares inventory to complete tasks.
• Rounds periodically on the "SITECH Help Desk" to assist customers with troubleshooting machine and off‑machine issues over the phone.
• Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
• Works safely and adheres to all applicable safety policies, company procedures, and standards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems.
• Strong electric diagnostic skills, schematic reading, and understanding.
• Working knowledge of 3D site modeling and the interaction of models with machine controls and site calibrations.
• Ability to operate multiple sized and brands of heavy equipment (motor graders, dozers, loaders, skid steers, asphalt trimmers, rock mills, piling machines, paving systems, asphalt pavers, concrete pavers, curbing machines).
• Ability to install and repair hydraulic valve systems and associated control systems.
• Strong electrical system experience (reading schematics, troubleshooting CAN networks, building/pinning cables).
• Ability to disassemble and repair electronic systems related to machine technology and survey infrastructure products.
• Ability to cut, grind, weld, and solder.

Requirements

• Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and some college, or additional technical training, required; Associates Degree in Survey, Auto, or Diesel Mechanics preferred.
• Trimble Certified Trainer: preferred.
• Experience: Up to 2 years with machine control products and infrastructure preferred.
• Travel: Up to 30% travel may be required, including overnight stays.
• Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required.
• Physical Requirements: Significant amount of standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, and reaching; constant movement and use of hands; routine visual inspection; lifting up to 50 lbs.; ability to maneuver safely under equipment; exposure to typical workout conditions.
• Work Environment: Regular outdoor work around moving mechanical parts, exposure to weather extremes, protective equipment, enclosed and open vehicle, exposure to chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, bright/poor lighting, high noise and vibration, confined workspaces, minor burns/cuts.
