Responsibilities

  • Design and lead technician training programs and on-site training in live environments.
  • Act as top-tier technical escalation for complex service or system issues and provide remote/on-site support.
  • Create and maintain Knowledge Base articles, system playbooks, and documentation; update with field findings.
  • Support Post Project Reviews and QA spot checks to verify system readiness and handoffs.
  • Conduct performance-based skill assessments and contribute to training program evaluations.
  • Collaborate with other Technology Specialists to maintain shared standards and provide guidance on emerging issues.
  • Interface with customers for escalations, training, or sales support; represent CEC's technical excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

OBJECTIVE:

Technology Specialists are elite SMEs in their technology area (e.g., Fire, Security, AV). They mentor and train field teams, support complex escalations, and define technical standards. They own documentation and develop playbooks for assigned technologies.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

include, but are not limited to the following:

Training & Mentoring
  • Design and lead technician training programs.
  • Perform regular technician skill assessments on site.
  • Conduct onsite training in live environments.
  • Support technician development plans through individual feedback and mentoring.
  • Nominate technicians to Coordination to optimize workload and develop team capabilities.
  • Ensure safety compliance and standards are being adhered to on any and all projects.
Technical Escalation & Troubleshooting
  • Act as top-tier technical escalation for the most complex service or system issues.
  • Provide remote and on-site support to resolve critical or unfamiliar problems.
  • Collaborate with Field Operations to reinforce system standards and best practices.
Documentation & Knowledge Management
  • Create and maintain all Knowledge Base (KB) articles, system playbooks, and how-to documentation related to their technology.
  • Incorporate field findings and service insights into continuous documentation updates.
Project-to-Service Handoff Support
  • Participate in Post Project Reviews (PPRs) and QA spot checks to verify system readiness.
  • Validate accuracy of as-builts, programming, and documentation for long-term service success.
  • Provide on-site training and coaching during live environments, guiding technicians through the processes.
Technician Development
  • Conduct performance-based skill assessments to identify areas for growth.
  • Contribute to training program evaluations to continuously improve development efforts.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
Collaboration & Cross-Technology Alignment
  • Work with other Technology Specialists to develop and maintain shared standards across all technology stacks.
  • Support Triage and Service teams by sharing insights, trends, and guidance on emerging system issues.
  • Participate as an active member in the Technical Solutions Committee.
Customer Interaction
  • Interface with customers when necessary for advanced escalations, training, knowledge transfer, or sales support.
  • Represent the technical excellence of CEC in both service and project contexts.
Other Duties as Assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 6+ years of experience within CEC or similar company.
  • 3+ safety related certifications
  • 3+ AV Industry certifications
  • 1 AV Technology certification
  • 2 business training/certifications
  • 2 leadership training/certifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-year technical degree (preferred)

**Industry certifications and trainings can/will be obtained during the first year of employment to meet the minimum qualifications when applicable.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's degree in electronics, IT, engineering technology, or a related field preferred (or equivalent military/technical trainings).
  • Extensive hands-on experience in field service, installations, and technical support required.
  • Experience in training development, coaching, or internal education programs strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Deep system knowledge in the assigned technology domain (e.g., Fire Alarm protocols, IP-based systems, AV signal flow, RTLS/Nurse Call infrastructure, etc.).
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create:
  • Construction drawings
  • System schematics
  • Programming files
  • As-built documentation
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities, especially for non-standard or multi-layered problems.
  • Comfortable creating and editing technical documentation and guides.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, NEC, ADA, UL, HIPAA, DNV, etc., depending on specialty).
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems, service workflows, and project handoffs.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
  • Effective communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts into field-ready guidance.
  • Strong leadership presence without direct authority-able to coach and elevate others.
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively, especially across departments (Service, Projects, Triage).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and process follow-through.
  • Comfortable speaking to small and large groups for training or technical presentations.
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with customers and partners in the field
PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Problem solving, creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses.
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
  • The employee is required to be able to climb ladders up to 12 feet high or be in a lift to extended heights.
  • The duties of this job require the employee to effectively speak and understand English language communications.
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, sit and use hands and fingers.
  • Lifting of objects is required, up to 50lbs.
  • Reaching, grasping, and carrying activities are also required.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.
