Position Title: Technology & Learning Specialist

Classification: Specialist: Part-time (20 hrs a week), Non-exempt.

Reports to: Technology Manager and Programs & Operations Manager

Position Summary: Technology & Learning Specialists are responsible for assisting Do Space members of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of ability with their technology needs and coordinating classes, workshops, and special events. This role supports Do Space’s mission to empower our community with technology access and innovative learning opportunities. This position will center on technology kit management, including maintenance, repairs, and brainstorming innovative ideas for new technology offerings, as well as teaching and coordinating engaging maker-focused classes for adults.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Assist members of the community with technology questions at the tech help desk, instructing them on the use of Do Space hardware and software, and assisting with technology checkouts.
  2. Provide basic troubleshooting for Do Space technology, including public access computers, tablets, gaming equipment, 3D printers, and other technology.
  3. Work with the Do Space team to brainstorm, research, design, and develop new ideas and strategies for technology access and literacy within Do Space.
  4. Collaborate with community instructors to schedule technology-based classes and learning opportunities for key audiences.
  5. Coordinate and lead Do Space technology programs and events for members of all ages.
  6. Assist presenters, teachers, speakers, and volunteers with set-up, tear-down, and use of Do Space hardware and software during classes and workshops.
  7. Train other staff on technologies used at Do Space.
  8. Continuously improve both internal processes and educational programming based on community feedback.
  9. Provide an outstanding customer service experience to the community.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Demonstrated proficiency and comfort with a variety of hardware and software products.
  3. Experience in assisting others with the use of technology.
  4. Enthusiasm and interest in teaching and leading classes, workshops, and other learning.
  5. Experience with working with the public and serving people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
  6. Excellent written/verbal communication and customer service skills.
  7. Ability to exhibit leadership, sound judgment, and professional demeanor in all interactions.
  8. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for serving the people of Omaha.
  9. Must be outgoing, creative, and comfortable leading groups of all ages.
Preferred Skills:
  1. Experience developing and delivering technology training.
  2. Experience using makerspace equipment such as 3D printers and laser cutters.
  3. Bilingual ability is a plus in serving our diverse community.
