Persistent Systems is seeking a visionary Technology Leader for the Data, Analytics & AI practice in Healthcare & Life Sciences. You will define and execute technology strategy, build AI/ML platforms, and partner with healthcare providers, payers, pharma, and life sciences orgs to turn data into transformative outcomes.

You will work with senior stakeholders, scale teams of data engineers and AI scientists, and drive multi-year programs across geographies while navigating regulatory compliance

Qualifications

  • 20+ years of progressive technology leadership.
  • At least 5 years at VP/SVP/CTO level in Healthcare/Life Sciences.
  • Proven track record delivering complex multi-year data programs.
  • Extensive client-facing experience, including board-level engagement.
  • Strong command of modern data stack, cloud-native architectures, and MLOps.
  • Expertise in HL7 FHIR, OMOP CDM, DICOM, ICD-10, SNOMED CT.
  • Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering/Biomedical Informatics or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the multi-year data, analytics & AI roadmap for the HLS practice.
  • Build and scale AI/ML platforms with regulatory and privacy considerations.
  • Serve as senior technology advisor to CxO stakeholders in healthcare.

About the Role:

We are seeking a visionary and entrepreneurial Technology Leader to lead our Data, Analytics & AI practice within the Healthcare and Life Sciences (HLS) vertical. This is a pivotal leadership role that sits at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and one of the world's most impactful industries.

As Technology Leader, you will define and execute our technology strategy, build and scale next-generation AI/ML platforms, and act as the pre-eminent thought leader both internally and externally. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with healthcare providers, payers, pharma companies, medical device manufacturers, and life sciences organizations to turn data into transformative, life-changing outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data & AI strategy for Healthcare & Lifesciences enterprises:
  • Define and own the multi-year technology roadmap for Data, Analytics & AI across the HLS practice.
  • Establish a differentiated AI/ML platform strategy that addresses unique healthcare data challenges including interoperability, regulatory compliance, and clinical safety.
  • Evaluate and curate the technology ecosystem — cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), data architectures (lakehouse, mesh, fabric), and GenAI frameworks.
  • Translate complex clinical and business problems into scalable, reliable technology solutions.
  • Architect and govern enterprise-grade data and AI platforms handling EHR/EMR data, real-world evidence (RWE), genomics, claims, and clinical trial data.
  • Drive adoption of Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI, and responsible AI frameworks within regulated healthcare environments.
  • Establish standards for data quality, lineage, observability, and governance in compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and other applicable regulations.
  • Champion federated learning, privacy-preserving AI, and synthetic data techniques for sensitive patient data.
Client Engagement & Business Development:
  • Serve as the senior-most technology advisor to CxO stakeholders at leading HLS organizations.
  • Lead the technology response for major RFPs, pursuits, and strategic deals.
  • Develop and deliver compelling point-of-view papers, executive briefings, and conference keynotes.
  • Partner with sales and account teams to identify, shape, and close $10M+ engagements.
Practice Development & Talent:
  • Build and nurture a world-class team of data engineers, AI/ML scientists, architects, and healthcare domain experts.
  • Establish centers of excellence (CoEs) and communities of practice around key technology domains.
  • Define talent strategy including hiring, development, retention, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, technical excellence, and continuous learning.
Innovation & Market Engagement:
  • Establish a portfolio of strategic technology partnerships with hyperscalers, ISVs, and healthcare data platform providers (Epic, Cerner/Oracle Health, Veeva, Medidata, IQVIA, etc.).
  • Drive IP creation through accelerators, frameworks, and proprietary datasets.
  • Represent the organization at leading industry forums including HIMSS, ViVE, Bio-IT World, ASHP, and JPM Healthcare Conference.
  • Contribute to academic and open-source communities to enhance brand equity and talent attraction.
Required Qualifications:
  • 20+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, with at least 5 years at VP/SVP/CTO level.
  • Deep domain expertise in Healthcare and/or Life Sciences — with hands-on experience in clinical, payer, pharma, or genomics data environments.
  • Proven track record solutioning and delivering complex, multi-year data programs across geographies, regulators, and C-suite stakeholders at Tier 1 or Tier 2 HLS institutions.
  • Extensive client-facing experience, including board-level and CxO engagement.
  • Strong command of modern data stack: data lakehouses, streaming (Kafka/Spark), cloud-native architectures, and MLOps frameworks.
  • Expertise in healthcare data standards: HL7 FHIR, OMOP CDM, DICOM, ICD-10, SNOMED CT, and interoperability frameworks
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field.
Preferred Experience:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or Data Science.
  • Experience in management consulting or professional services in a Big 4 or top-tier technology firm.
  • Background in clinical informatics, computational biology, or health economics outcomes research (HEOR).
  • Published thought leadership in peer-reviewed journals or major technology conferences.
  • Certifications in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and/or data governance frameworks.
