Job summary

CNA Insurance’s Tech Summer Internship Program invites high-potential students for a 10-12 week hands-on experience across Application Development and DevOps, using Agile practices. You’ll join a hybrid model based at CNA’s Chicago headquarters, work with seasoned developers, and gain mentoring while building real-world skills.

Qualified candidates are undergrad juniors/seniors or first-year masters in CS/CE with a minimum 3.0 GPA, and a strong interest in insurance.

Qualifications

• Sophomore to senior undergraduate or first-year master's student in CS/CE or related field.
• GPA of at least 3.00 overall and in major.
• Study of Java/C-like OOP concepts; data structures and web development basics.
• Familiarity with information security concepts and network architecture.
• Interest in the insurance industry; some work experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and in a team; strong communication and leadership potential.

Responsibilities

• Challenging assignments that apply technical education to real projects.
• Learn SAFe methodology by working with experienced CNA developers.
• Apply software engineering best practices such as TDD.
• Use public cloud platforms to create business applications and services.

CNA’s Tech Summer Internship Program is looking to create a team of interns for a dynamic and fast pace 10-12 week training program that provides hands on experience and unique opportunities across a variety of technologies. Interns will have experiences in areas such as Application Development and Dev Ops while working with Agile methodologies and tools.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• Must be a sophomore, junior or senior (undergraduate) or in first year of Masters program pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field
• A minimum 3.00 GPA is required (overall and major)
• Computer Science courses in: Object-oriented language(s), Java preferred
• Data Structures
• Web Development
• SQL and Database Fundamentals
• Knowledge of Information Security and Application Security
• Knowledge of Systems and Network Architecture
• Interest in the Insurance Industry
• Some previous work experience preferred
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and the ability to cultivate and maintain positive business relationships

Program Location:

CNA’s corporate headquarters is located in the heart of downtown Chicago at 151 N Franklin St, near all public transportation from the city and suburbs. The program will employ a hybrid working model, alternating between working in the office and from home. In certain jurisdictions, CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. In District of Columbia, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York and Washington, the national base pay range for this job level is $35,000 to $65,000 annually. Salary determinations are based on various factors, including but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location.
