Job summary

Axens North America in Houston seeks a Technology Engineer (Hydroprocessing) to provide technical know-how and support for catalysts, absorbents, process licensing and equipment in the Americas region.

You will work with the ROC team to develop proposals, deliver technical studies, and support clients from initial evaluation through after-sales service, including remote monitoring and field visits. Travel up to 50% may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or relevant discipline required.
  • Three or more (3+) years of experience in the petrochemical and/or refining industry with hydroprocessing experience.
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally up to 50% of time.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and provides technical know-how for hydroprocessing technologies.
  • Supports day-to-day technology and technical services tasks with supervision from senior engineers.
  • Develop, present and follow-up technical projections for catalyst replacements in existing units.
  • Participate in development, presentation and follow-up of technical proposals and client evaluations of Axens technologies.
  • Provide after-sales technical service to Axens clients to optimize catalyst loads, startup/shutdown procedures, and remote monitoring.
  • Participate in training with clients and ROC team members.
  • Promote Axens products, technologies, and services in various meeting formats.
  • Assist in maintaining Axens quality, safety, and ISO compliance.

Job Summary

The Technology Engineer is a member of the Technology and Technical Support Department (T&TS) of Axens Americas Regional Operating Center (ROC). This team provides technical support to the Catalyst & Absorbents, Process Licensing and Equipment businesses for the Americas region.

JOB DUTIES/Responsibilities
  • Develops and provides technical know-how for the technologies of specialization.
  • Focuses on direct day-to-day technology and technical services operational tasks, with support and supervision from more senior engineers as necessary.
  • Develop, present and ensure follow-up of technical projections for replacement of catalysts in existing units.
  • Participate in the development, presentation and follow-up of technical proposals and studies in support of evaluation by clients of Axens technologies and integrated solutions, for grass root and revamp projects.
  • Support Commercial team for the development of commercial proposals for Axens Americas ROC Catalyst & Absorbent and Process Licensing businesses.
  • Provide after sales technical service to Axens clients with the following objectives:
    • Ensuring optimized start-up of Axens catalysts loads for achieving performances in line with projections
    • Ensuring safe and successful commissioning of new units, including development and review of startup/shutdown procedures, and supervision in the field
    • Monitoring clients’ units and catalysts performances using Axens Connect’InTM remote monitoring solution, supporting clients in optimizing their operations, troubleshooting, through remote work as well as regular visits and meetings at clients’ sites
    • Building long‑term relationships with clients while showcasing Axens’ expertise
  • Participate in training sessions with Axens’ clients as well as Axens Americas ROC team members from all business divisions.
  • Participate in the promotion of products, technologies and services with external parties in various meeting formats, from large industry conferences to smaller one‑on‑one settings.
  • Comply with Axens quality system requirements including contribution to the development and updates of Axens internal standards and processes as well as actively participating in internal team metrics including Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and other ISO requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education

  • BS, MS, or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or relevant discipline required.

Work Experience

  • Three or more (3+) years of experience in the petrochemical and/or refining industry with demonstrated experience in hydroprocessing.
  • Field experience is a plus (experience in commissioning/startup/shutdown activities and ongoing operational support for hydroprocessing units preferred)
  • Knowledge in chemical engineering fundamentals including reaction engineering, catalyst and general chemistry required.
  • Experience with PRO/II simulation software (or similar) is preferred, experience in Excel-based modelling tools required.
  • Experience in basic process design, project engineering and/or economics is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically or internationally up to 50% of time
  • Experience giving technical presentations to large audiences with strong technical expertise a plus
