Job summary

Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. seeks a Technology Consultant to lead design and consulting efforts for technology systems on assigned projects, including structured cabling, access control, video surveillance, nurse call, audiovisual, and other low voltage communications.

You will manage scope, pricing, staffing, and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery with high technical quality. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in engineering or IT with 5+ years of applicable experience (8+ years in lieu

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Information Technology (or equivalent) and 5+ years of applicable experience, or 8 years of direct experience in low voltage design/administration.
  • Experience collaborating with architects and knowledge of architectural design phases.
  • Security clearance is required.
  • Healthcare construction experience is recommended.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of low voltage systems such as nurse call, audiovisual, public address, security, and phone systems; and understanding of NEC, NFPA, NFPA 70 etc.

Responsibilities

  • Performs project management duties for assigned projects, including scope, schedule, budgets, and QA/QC.
  • Develops design approaches and concepts; collaborates with senior staff for guidance.
  • Conducts planning meetings to determine scope, needs, processes, and client expectations.
  • Reviews shop drawings and communicates feedback to designers.
  • Communicates with owners, architects, and contractors as needed.
  • Conducts site visits during construction to monitor progress and conformance.
  • Prepares and maintains project budgets.
  • Keeps up with industry trends and ongoing professional development.
  • Ensures company policies and procedures are followed during execution.

The Technology Consultant develops the design and leads the consulting efforts for technology systems on assigned projects. These technology systems include structured cabling, access control, video surveillance, nurse call, audiovisual, and other low voltage communications systems. This position is responsible for managing assigned projects through scoping, pricing, staffing, and ensuring that projects are produced on time, within budget, and of the highest technical quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs project management duties for the team on assigned projects through the establishment and management of the project plan, which is made up of team man-hour budgets, the project schedule, and QA/QC
  • Develops design approaches and concepts on assigned projects and seeks assistance from senior technical staff as needed
  • Conducts planning and vision casting meetings to determine the scope of the project, current and future needs, process and work flow, and client expectations
  • Reviews shop drawings, records changes, and provides feedback to designers based on project specifications
  • Assists in the communication with the owner, architect, and contractors as needed
  • Conducts site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes
  • Prepares and maintains project budgets
  • Actively participates in professional organizations and/or client groups where the technical reputation and image of the firm may be enhanced
  • Maintains a focus on keeping up with industry trends and changes with continued self-education and training
  • Assists Technology Associates in understanding company technical policies and procedures during the execution of a project
  • Acts and performs activities inside and outside the office consistent with ethical engineering standards
An ideal candidate will possess the following requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or relevant degree AND five years of applicable experience OR eight years of direct experience in the design, application, and/or administration of low voltage system
  • Experience working with architects and a thorough knowledge of the architectural design phases
  • Must have security clearance
  • Healthcare construction experience is recommended
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Knowledge and understanding of low voltage systems such as nurse call, audio visual, public address, security, phone systems etc.
  • Knowledge and understanding of NEC, NESC, NFPA, FGI, BiCSi TDMM and other industry related codes and standards
