Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center is seeking a Patient Care Technician to perform clinical and clerical tasks in the ED nursing department, including vital signs, phlebotomy, ECGs, and specimen handling.

Work hours are night shifts from 11 PM to 7:30 AM, with 7.5 scheduled hours per shift, Bronx location; competitive hourly rate of $28 with potential shift differentials.

Job Summary Performs a variety of clinical and clerical services in a clinic or physicians office. Performs related work as required.

Essential Functions
  1. Record Patients vitals in EMR stem, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, and measurements as needed * Accuracy of results. ***
  2. Performs EKGS, ABI's, Venipunctures as needed * Accuracy of results ***
  3. Prepare blood drawings & Specimens for resulting as needed * Accuracy of results ***
  4. Hook up and disconnect patients form Holter and event monitors as needed * Low rate of patient error ***
  5. Assist physicians with annual physicals, including eye and hearing exams as needed * Accuracy of results ***
  6. Run automated urine testing, rapid strep testing. hematocrit, HCG, hemoglobin and INR testing as needed * Accuracy of results ***
  7. Maintain log book contain abnormal result find
  8. Ensure that medications are not expired or opened Maintain and order medical supplies * Compliant with health care regulations ***
  9. Sterilize instruments and equipment using autoclave prepare patients exam and procedure rooms * Safe and efficient medical procedures ***
  10. Provide patients with educational materials pertaining there upcoming procedures, answer any questions they may have * Patient satisfaction ***
  11. Obtain insurance authorizations for prescriptions and procedures * Patient satisfaction ***
  12. Make appointments, answer phones, scan documents and medical-records into EMR * Patient satisfaction and accurate clinical follow up ***
  13. Reply and process medical records request * Accuracy of care.
Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required Certificate of successfully completing a Patient Care Technician training program with presentation of competency based orientation and Basic Cardiac Life Support. Training must include phlebotomy and 12 Lead ECG required Graduate of state approved nursing assistant certificate program or 2 years experience as a direct care provider in a related clinical setting or a combination of education and experience acceptable to the Director of Nursing. Emergency Department positions preferred EMS training or medical corpsman experience. Ability to read, write and speak English. Basic Life Support (BLS) training required OHS Annual Assessment OHS Fit Test
