Job summary

Denver Health is seeking a mission-driven Technologist I, Radiography (Night) to join our Radiology team. You will perform general radiographic examinations under radiologist direction, with emphasis on patient safety and quality imaging, while interfacing with PACS and Epic for data entry and orders.

The role requires a Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program with AART within 3 years, BLS CPR, and RTR-RT ARRT certification.

Qualifications

  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program required within 3 years of start date (Colorado statute).
  • AART certification required or must be attained within 3 years of start date.
  • BLS/CPR certification required; RTR-RT Radiography registration with ARRT.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general radiographic examinations during night shift with minimal supervision.
  • Operate PACS, input data in Epic, and manage radiology worklists efficiently.
  • Ensure patient safety and dignity, using 2 patient identifiers and safe transport.
  • Maintain and inventory radiology supplies and equipment, report malfunctions.
  • Attend departmental huddles and Radiology inservices.

Job Summary

Under the direction of a radiologist, performs general radiographic examinations at a technical level not requiring constant supervision during the night shift. Performs a variety of technical imaging procedures that entail application of ionizing radiation; therefore, prudent judgment, strong technical skills, and commitment to patient safety are considered requisite professional characteristics for individuals assuming the position as a general radiologic technologist.

Essential Functions
  • Performs high quality general radiographic/fluoroscopic imaging studies by selecting specific software parameters that will produce a quality image for use by radiologists in their determination of a diagnosis. To provide the necessary data for radiologists to interpret images, the technologist scans all relevant clinical information into the PACS, assigns prioritization box for the radiologists' worklist, and then transmits current (and comparison images, when applicable) to the PACS. These activities must be completed immediately following examination completion, not to exceed 1 hour. (40%)
  • Effectively interacts with Denver Health's PACS system through compliance with data entry, image post-processing, image archiving tasks, image quality assurance, and other related user interface activities. Uses Epic to input patient examination data and to place patient orders, when appropriate. (15%)
  • Ensures patient safety, comfort, and personal dignity by following appropriate patient care guidelines to include use of 2 patient identifiers. Transports patients to and from the Department of Radiology, as needed, to prevent patient flow delays. (20%)
  • Assists in the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and performing inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing general radiographic examinations. Maintains imaging and processing equipment by performing scheduled cleanings and tests; results of all cleanings and tests are documented, as appropriate. Contacts service personnel and notifies supervisory staff of equipment malfunctions. Maintains a clean and orderly working environment through wiping down examination tables, changing linens, stocking supplies, and washing/disinfecting general radiographic equipment. (20%)
  • Attends and participates in departmental huddles, general intradepartmental meetings, and Radiology's inservices. (5%)
Education

Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program AART required within 3 years of start date based on State of Colorado Statute

Work Experience

less than 1 year of professional work experience in performing general radiographic/fluoroscopic procedures

Licenses

BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge in how to operate general radiographic equipment and related technology.
  • Demonstrated competency in the performance of general radiographic imaging studies.
  • Knowledge of how to address age-specific care needs of patients and effective interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and collaborations.
  • Competency in interpreting physician order requests for general radiographic imaging studies.
  • Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.
  • Ability to consistently produce quality images of various anatomical structures.
  • Ability to handle patient specimens and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to maintain the expected level of competency.
  • Knowledge of safety and infection control practices to ensure a safe environment of care.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience required.
  • Electronic Health Management experience preferred.
