Job summary

Indiana University Health System is seeking a full-time night shift unit role combining patient care and clerical duties. You will assist the clinical team, maintain patient areas, and help coordinate tests and records under supervision.

CPR and BLS may be required, with potential completion of the IU Health PCA program. The role requires familiarity with medical terminology, infection control, and basic computer skills to support daily patient flow and safety.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CPR may be required; may complete Unit Secretary training program.
• Requires prior acute patient care experience or completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Current Basic Life Support certification (BLS) through AHA or completion of IU Health PCA program.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of patient care procedures and standards.
• Knowledge of infection control.
• Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care and unit clerical duties under a Clinical Nurse.
• Maintains clean and orderly patient environment and assists patients, families and vendors.
• Schedules tests and procedures; maintains patient records; signs patients in and out.
• May order, receive and deliver equipment and supplies for the care team.
• May perform continuous observation including suicide risk assessment.

Schedule:

• Full-time night shift (3 12-hour shifts per week)

Position Overview:

Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department. Administers care to designated patients under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and provides support to the patient care team. Ensures a clean and orderly environment for the patient. Provides information, directions and other assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors. May schedule tests and procedures for the patient, maintain patient records and sign patients in and out of the unit. May be responsible for the ordering, receiving and delivering of equipment and supplies for the patient care team. May be required to provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.

• High School Diploma or GED is required. CPR May be required to complete Unit Secretary training program.
• Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program.
• Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology.
• Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities.
