Position Overview

Join our team as a Technician Supervisor who performs the duties of medical technical staff (e.g., technicians and assistants) as well as scheduling and supervising the staff of the assigned department. Expedites the care and efficiency of the department. In charge of patient care standards for the department. Must lead the team by example, demonstrating organizational skills, following company policies, and maintaining a professional attitude.

The Veterinary Technician Supervisor is a working supervisor responsible for leading the technical team while actively performing the duties of a veterinary technician. This individual manages the daily operations of the technical department, ensures patient care standards are maintained, and mentors team members to achieve clinical excellence. The Technician Supervisor must be lead the team by example, demonstrating organizational skills, following company policies, and maintaining a professional attitude.

Education and Experience:
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older to be considered for this position.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Active CVT, LVT, RVT, or LVMT certification preferred or as required by applicable state regulations.
  • Possession of or eligibility for controlled substance permits as required by applicable state regulations.
  • Minimum of 3 years of veterinary technician experience with demonstrated high-level clinical proficiency.
  • One or more years of supervisory, lead, or mentorship experience preferred.
  • May consider an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and/or experience.
Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)
  • 5+ years of veterinary experience
  • 1 or more years supervisory or mentorship experience
Physical Requirements:
  • Dependable attendance is required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions.
  • This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day.
  • Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing hospital equipment.
Schedule:
  • Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday from 8:30AM-5:50PM
  • Minimum 3 shifts/week
  • Possible option for Tuesday or Weekend shifts in the future
Essential Functions — Duties include, but are not limited to:
Staff Management:
  • Interview, hire, train, review, schedule, and develop technical staff.
  • Conduct introductory and annual performance evaluations; deliver constructive feedback.
  • Administer on-call schedules as well as standard scheduling for staff; monitor and regulate overtime hours.
  • Assign job responsibilities to each team member and direct patient care workflow.
  • Enforce hospital policies and communicate new protocols to the technical team.
  • Monitor team member competence and effectiveness; address performance concerns promptly.
  • Exhibit confidentiality and professionalism in all team member matters; be proactive in issue resolution.
  • Keep hospital management informed of any issues or risks affecting operations or team member relations.
Patient Management:
  • Perform the full range of veterinary technician duties as a working member of the clinical team.
  • Establish and enforce patient care standards, clinical protocols, and safety practices for the department.
  • Oversee the process of patient admitting, hospitalization, and discharge.
  • Responsible for administration, delegation, and completion of veterinarian medical orders.
  • Mentor technical staff in nursing care, radiology, anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, laboratory, and pharmacy.
  • Ensure all patient medical and surgical records are complete and accurate.
  • Ensure controlled substance handling and compliance within the technical department.
  • Always ensure use of proper safe handling techniques to keep pets calm and safely under control, including but not limited to Fear Free.
Clinical Care:
  • Perform advanced specialty technician duties as an active clinical team member.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce specialty‑specific protocols, workflows, and quality standards.
  • Serve as the clinical resource for complex cases, advanced procedures, and technical challenges.
  • Monitor controlled substance handling and compliance within the specialty department.
  • Maintain departmental equipment, supplies, and readiness for specialty procedures.
Collaboration and Development:
  • Collaborate with specialty Veterinarians on case management, process improvement, and continuing education.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental communication for multi‑disciplinary patient care.
  • Track departmental metrics including caseload, equipment utilization, and staff performance.
  • Participate in hospital‑wide quality improvement and safety programs
Client Management:
  • Oversee client flow to ensure patients are seen and treated professionally and efficiently.
  • Assist with client complaint resolution and medical complaint administration.
  • Oversee compliance with callback and follow‑up reminder systems.
Office and Facility Management:
  • Oversee departmental cleanliness, supply inventory, and equipment maintenance.
  • Verify receipt of all inventory and supplies; mark invoices and packing slips received.
  • Ensure OSHA and safety program procedures are continuously monitored and updated.
  • Monitor the cost of purchasing to ensure the practice operates within budget.
  • Review charges daily to ensure all services have been captured.
Meetings and Communication:
  • Organize or participate in monthly staff meetings in conjunction with the hospital management team.
  • Read and respond to all communications in a timely manner.
  • Ensure hospital policies and guidelines are communicated to all technical staff promptly.

Pay Range
