Job description

Overview

Works under the direct supervision of the pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care services, while considering patient specific factors. This could be through the prioritization and processing of medication orders, the preparing of medications for dispensing, distribution and stocking of patient care locations for subsequent drug administration. Performs data collections, assembly and interpretation for limited quality programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• May practice the Medication-Use Process: Procures, handles, prepares, distributes, charges/credits and disposes of medication safely and accurately.
• Manages own pharmacy practice effectively.
• May participate in inventory management.
• May use and maintain automation/equipment.
• Provides education/training as appropriate.
• May be involved in processing and preparing sterile products for dispensing.
• Contributes to goals, programs and report cards for operational unit and entity.
• Completes assigned goals.

Qualifications

• Experience and Competencies
  • Advanced competencies in patient/clinical information gathering and processing for prior authorizations, refill authorizations, or patient assistance applications.
  • High-risk compounding experience.
  • Tech check or med history expertise.
  • NICU/Pediatric experience.
  • Certifications or program completions such as Narcotic/ASHP Diversion Certification.
• Education and Training
  • Skills in communicating clearly with effective use of standard English in written, oral and verbal format; skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary.
  • Technician training program or academy.
• Licensure and Certifications
  • PTCB certification required; registration with the state board of pharmacy.
  • CPHT certification.
• Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Microsoft suite applications and automated pharmacy equipment.
  • One year hospital experience.
  • Technician training program/academy.
