Job summary

Baptist Memorial Health Care is seeking a skilled medical laboratory professional to support patient care in the hospital setting. You will perform defined laboratory procedures, report results, and participate in quality control across shifts.

Responsibilities include specimen handling, test processing, instrument maintenance, and ensuring accurate patient identification to prevent errors. A certification path exists with six-month hire-date requirements, and basic LIS proficiency is expected.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or successful completion of a 50-week US military medical laboratory training program with certification
• National certification as required by federal and/or state regulations; must be obtained within six months of hire date
• Basic computer literacy and proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) preferred

Responsibilities

• Receives, identifies, organizes, and prioritizes specimens to ensure accurate and timely test processing.
• Performs and reports requested laboratory procedures.
• Performs quality control, proficiency testing and routine instrument maintenance and inventory control.
• Evaluates positive patient identification to reduce analytical and post-analytical errors.
• Assesses, evaluates and draws appropriate conclusions.
• Follows regulatory requirements and maintains safe laboratory practice.
• Completes assigned goals.
