Job summary

XPO Logistics, Inc. is seeking a Lead Technician to supervise shop personnel and oversee maintenance of class 7 and 8 diesel equipment and trailers. The role requires a strong mechanical background in the automotive sector, the ability to coordinate parts and vendors, and ensure compliance with DOT, EPA, OSHA rules.

Excellent leadership and training skills are essential. The position pays $41.11/hour with Master Certification and shift differential, with an afternoon shift (2:00PM–10:30PM,

Qualifications

  • Must have 4 years of related work experience or military background.
  • Valid driver’s license is required.
  • Brake inspection qualification per FMCSA regs 396.25.
  • Vehicle inspection qualification per FMCSA regs 396.19.
  • Able to obtain EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS or equivalent).
  • Prior mechanical experience in automotive or skilled trades.
  • Open to working days, evenings, nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and supervise shop personnel.
  • Order parts and manage vendors.
  • Ensure technicians receive required training.
  • Perform routine maintenance on class 7/8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment.
  • Inspect and work on vehicles and trailers as needed.
  • Adhere to DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority and OSHA rules; lead by example.

Job description

W hat you’ll need to succeed as a Lead Technician at XPO
  • 4 years of related work experience or military experience
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Brake inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25
  • Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19
  • Able to obtain EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS or equivalent)
  • Prior mechanical experience in the automotive industry or skilled trades
  • Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
Preferred qualifications:
  • 3 years of hands-on experience as a fleet technician
  • Tractor and trailer experience
  • Forklift repair knowledge
  • ASE Master MD/HD truck certification
  • Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC)

What you’ll do on a typical day:
  • Schedule and supervise shop personnel
  • Order parts and manage vendors
  • Ensure technicians receive the required training
  • Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of class 7 and 8 diesel equipment, forklifts and trailing equipment in compliance with the manufacturer’s and company’s schedules
  • Safely access any area of the equipment or vehicle to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of vehicles and trailers
  • Apply knowledge of and work by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Interstate Authority and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA); follow all rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and lead your team to do the same
  • Repair or rebuild all or parts of various equipment systems
  • Move trailers throughout the property
  • Operate a hostler in all types of weather; safely walk and stand for extended periods
Lead Technicians are required to:
  • Lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights frequently up to 50 lbs. And occasionally greater than 75 lbs.
  • Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
  • Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
