Job summary

Socket.dev seeks an entry-level Technician to assist with repairing CAT equipment under supervision. You will inspect, disassemble, and reassemble components, perform oil changes, and ensure work aligns with manuals and safety standards.

The role involves hands-on maintenance and data entry using SIS Web, STW, and parts books. The ideal candidate is currently an Associate Degree student, has basic hydraulic/engine knowledge, and can communicate in English.

  • Disassemble, assemble, remove and install machine components, and systems experience desired.

Job description

  • Works under the direct supervision and instruction of a Technician IV to assist in repairing machines to the customers and supervisor’s satisfaction. Performs some simple tasks independently, such as machine inspections and minor troubleshooting, when scheduled for required preventative maintenance work.
  • Removes, installs, disassembles, and assembles Caterpillar equipment including engines, hydraulics, and transmissions as assigned.
  • Assists as needed with changing oil and fluids in equipment to specifications.
  • Uses technician tools, including but not limited to: service manuals, operations manuals, SIS Web STW and parts books effectively to address technical issues.
  • Performs all required tasks in accordance with printed procedures.
  • Inspects machines upon customer return for damage, abuse, fuel levels and all attachments as requested.
  • Washes, details, and touches up machines upon return as needed to maintain proper appearance.
  • Steam cleans equipment and components on request; keeps steam-cleaning area clean and free of all debris.
  • Assists with shop cleanup.
  • Adheres to all customer care standards.
  • Actively cares and advocates safety at Western States. Adheres to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • May accomplish training and serve as a team member in support of Western States’ strategic programs, projects, and initiatives.
  • Work within and promotes corporate vision, mission, and values of the organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office recommended.
  • Ability to learn and use computer systems (ET, STW, Parts Integration, SIS Web).
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Consistent attendance and timeliness.
  • Ability to work overtime with little or no notice.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be currently enrolled in last semester of an Associate Degree program from an accredited vocational school. Knowledge and understanding of hydraulic, engine and power train systems required.
  • Disassemble, assemble, remove and install machine components, and systems experience desired.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).
PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitively climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
  • Ability to generate 97 ft./lbs. of force, by pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift up to 60lbs from the ground and place on a shelf/platform set up to 65 inches off the ground.
  • Ability to carry up to 20 lbs. while repeatedly ascending/descending a minimum of ten, 8” stair steps.
  • Ability to repeatedly ascend/descend a minimum of 10 rungs on various ladders.
  • Ability to assemble/disassemble various sizes of nuts and bolts, while repeatedly bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
