Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Field Technician to support daily operations at customer sites, including loading/unloading tools and materials. The role involves hands-on field work, safety-focused duties, and teamwork as part of our team green initiative.

The position is based in Byron Center, MI, with no remote work. Overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required, and a valid driver’s license is essential for daily field tasks.

Qualifications

• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability to speak read and write English sufficiently.
• Pass pre-employment criminal background screening and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment in the field and shop (e.g., pressure washers, jetters).
• Support environmental projects (confined space entry, waterway response, hazardous materials cleanup).
• Assist vacuum truck operators with hoses and related tasks.
• Ensure crew and site safety by following safety policies and mitigating hazards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Overview

The Field Technician is responsible for performing various tasks to aid daily operations at customer sites including but not limited to loading and unloading tools, raw materials, equipment, and supplies. This position takes an active role on crews by participating in both scheduled and emergency projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate various pieces of equipment in the field and at our shop including but not limited to; pressure washers and jetters

Support various environmental projects such as:

• Confined Space Entry
• Trailer jetter operation
• Power washing
• Assist vacuum truck operators with hose
• Waterway response
• Hazardous materials clean up
• Manifesting and labeling of containerized waste

Ensure the health and safety of the crew, customer, and site by adhering to safety policies and procedures by identifying, communicating, and mitigating hazards

Other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

• Working in a variety of weather conditions
• Performing physical labor, including lifting up to 50 pounds, under direction of crew leads
• Overtime as required, occasional weekends and holidays
• Located in Byron Center, MI, no remote work available
• Full-time position with room for advancement
