Job summary

Alcon is seeking a Technician III in Repair & Maintenance Engineering for our Houston manufacturing facility. You will plan, design, and implement maintenance programs, diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and document work in Maximo.

Qualifications

  • Maintenance experience in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read schematics, manuals and drawings.
  • Strong troubleshooting with a methodical approach.
  • Industrial/manufacturing facilities experience.
  • CMMS experience and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and implement maintenance programs to optimize facility and equipment availability.
  • Read schematics, manuals, and technical drawings to support maintenance work.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on schedule.
  • Document work accurately in Maximo and coordinate with production teams.
  • Collaborate with operators, supervisors, and engineers; communicate issues and status clearly.
  • Proactively identify potential issues to minimize downtime; troubleshoot with a logical approach.
  • Coordinate maintenance work and liaise with production schedules for repairs and safety inspections.
  • Participate in installation and commissioning of new equipment; adhere to SOPs and regulatory requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement and regulatory compliance across operations.

This role is part of Alcon's Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes.

The Technician III, Repair & Maintenance Engineering is primarily responsible for managing technical tasks in planning, designing, and implementing maintenance programs for facilities and equipment. You will be expected to build effective and meaningful relationships to coordinate maintenance work, review engineering specifications, and participate in equipment installation at our Manufacturing Facility in Houston, TX. Specifics Include:

In this role, a typical day will include:
  • Handle technical tasks related to planning, designing, and implementing maintenance programs to optimize facility and equipment availability and productivity.
  • Reads and use schematics, manuals, technical drawings and diagnostic tools effectively.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, hydraulic systems.
  • Completes preventive and corrective maintenance on schedule.
  • Clearly communicates issues, root causes, and repair status.
  • Documents work accurately in Maximo.
  • Collaborates with other departments - operators, supervisors and engineers.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a logical, methodical approach, resolve issues quickly while minimizing downtime.
  • Proactively identifies potential issues before they become failures.
  • Assist in coordinating maintenance engineering work and liaise with production staff to coordinate repair work, statutory safety inspections, and the supply of new plant and equipment with production schedules.
  • Participate in the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Make decisions within the scope of your tasks, requiring advanced technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Adhere to GxP regulations by strictly following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintaining accurate and complete documentation, ensuring rigorous quality control, and completing all required training.
  • Meet individual job requirements and contribute to the overall compliance of the organization, committing to continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential to our operations.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • Location: Onsite
  • Schedule: Friday to Sunday and every other Thursday from 4am to 4pm.
  • Travel Requirements: 0 - 10%

Preferred Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
  • Proven experience maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems
  • Able to read schematics, manuals, and technical drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with a logical, methodical approach
  • Technical certification, license electrical/HVAC, experience in industrial/manufacturing,
  • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, facilities, or utilities environments
  • CMMS experience and basic computer skills
