Cornell University’s Field lab in the Division of Nutritional Sciences seeks a full-time research technician to support projects on mitochondrial DNA integrity and function. The Division of Nutritional Sciences (DNS) at Cornell University is among the largest academic units in the United States devoted to human nutrition. The DNS mission and scholarly activities integrate knowledge from the physical, biological, and social sciences in the areas of molecular, human, international, and community nutrition. The program is supported by state-of-the-art facilities for both transgenic animal and human metabolic research.
The Field lab in DNS aims to understand how folate and vitamin B12 contribute to the maintenance of mitochondrial DNA integrity and mitochondrial function. The lab combines genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology in cell lines and transgenic mouse models to determine the relationship between B vitamin availability and mitochondrial biology.
The Field lab in the Division of Nutritional Sciences is seeking a full-time research technician to support the active projects in maintenance of mitochondrial DNA integrity and mitochondrial function.
The research will integrate biochemistry, molecular biology, and analytical chemistry. The candidate will work under guidance and support of Dr Field to carry out analysis of cell lines and transgenic animal models. The research technician will also perform an array of molecular biology techniques, animal husbandry work, processing of animal samples and general laboratory maintenance. Training will be provided for data analysis and scientific communication through lab meetings and potential contributions to scientific publications.
The ideal candidate for this position will have cell culture and animal handling training and would be motivated to work independently after training. There will be continuous learning opportunities, intellectual engagement, and scientific communication. This position is an excellent platform for individuals interested in gaining biomedical research experience for graduate or professional schools (medical, pharmacy etc.).
This position is full-time (39 hours per week), benefits eligible, with a one-year appointment. Reappointment may be possible contingent upon available funding, available work and satisfactory job performance. This position is an on-site position located in Ithaca, New York.
