Intertek is seeking a Technician II to support the Electrical team in Arlington Heights, IL. The role involves conducting electrical/performance testing, writing reports, and communicating results to clients under supervision.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of electrical/mechanical hands-on experience and a high school diploma, with knowledge of ANSI/IES/NEMA/UL/CSA standards and proficiency in MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Read test methods and test specifications provided by engineering for EUT (equipment under test).
  • Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
  • Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing.
  • Set up and operate EUT; perform simple repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards (input rating, temp, leakage current, dielectric, grounding impedance, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal, fault, rain, IP).
  • Develop and set up test plans.
  • Set up and operate standard test equipment (spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multimeter, dielectric strength tester, ground continuity tester, digital multimeter, surge generator, over-voltage tester, environmental chamber, probes).
  • Follow sample handling procedures; log samples in/out.
  • Move equipment through the facility; properly package samples for shipment.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities.
  • Perform basic analysis of test data and routine calculations.
  • Wiring to connect complex branch circuits (single phase, 3 phase, Delta/Y).
  • May make recommendations regarding test standards applicability.
  • May communicate with clients and management.
  • Perform other work as required.

What are we looking for?

The Technician II is responsible for providing technical support for engineering staff, including performing duties related to testing. This Technician II works under direct supervision and is responsible for performing electrical/performance testing on a variety of products to the provisions of U.S., Canada (e.g., IES, CIE, NEMA, UL/CSA) and other internationalproduct safety standards, writing reports and communicating with clients.

Salary & Benefits Information

The salary range for this position is $28 - $35 per hour. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you’ll do:
  • Read apply test methods and test specifications provided by engineering for EUT (equipment under test).
  • Read and understand schematics and manufacturinginstructions.
  • Under scope of the project, identify and locate test instruments and equipment required fortesting.
  • Set up and operate EUT (Equipment Under Test); perform and document simple repairs on EUT asneeded.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards. Core tests include, but are not limited toinput rating, normal temperature, leakage current, dielectric, grounding impedance, stability, mechanical hazard, flammability, abnormal, fault assurance, rain, and IP.
  • Develop and set up test plans.
  • Set up and operate standard test equipment including, but not limited to, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, multi-meter, dielectric strength tester, ground continuity tester, digital multi-meter, surge generator, over-voltage tester, environmental condition chamber, articulated probes. Use hand tools to build/calibrate test fixtures.
  • Follow sample handling procedures, ensure that sample is logged into and out of the system.
  • Move equipment as needed through the facility. Properly package sample for shipment.
  • Maintain equipment and facilities.
  • Perform basic analysis of test data and routine calculations.
  • Wiring to identify and connectcomplex branch circuit connections including but not limited to single phase, split phase, three phase, Delta and Y Configurations.
  • May make recommendations regarding technical decisions relating to the interpretation and applicability of test standards.
  • May communicate with clients and management.
  • Perform other work as required.
