Job summary

South32 Group Operations Pty. Ltd. is seeking an Environmental Technician for the Hermosa project site near Patagonia, Arizona. The role focuses on inspecting, monitoring and reporting environmental data to support regulatory compliance across exploration, construction and mining operations.

The position requires compliance with safety standards, field sampling, data management, and collaboration with operations and contractors to ensure environmental requirements are understood and implemented.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree or coursework in Environmental Science or related field preferred.
• Valid driver's license with ability to meet vehicle insurance requirements.
• Minimum one year of experience in environmental compliance, monitoring, inspections, sampling, or related activities preferred.
• Experience in mining, construction, manufacturing, energy, or similar environments preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, monitor, test and report environmental tracking systems and ensure regulatory compliance.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Environmental Technician is responsible for inspecting, monitoring, testing and reporting on environmental tracking systems and helping maintain compliance with environmental regulations and permits for the Hermosa project’s mineral exploration, construction, water treatment and mining operations. This position is based at the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Ensure site and field safety procedures are followed during all work activities.
• Adhere to and promoting a safe workplace and meet all company and MSHA safety requirements at a facility with a strong safety culture.
• Assist with conducting and documenting environmental compliance inspections of site facilities and operations for the project’s mineral exploration, construction, water treatment, and future mining operations.
• Support Air Quality field data collection and inspections.
• Adhere to quality control/quality assurance protocols.
• Prepare and ship time- and temperature-sensitive fragile lab samples.
• Assist with data entry and maintain environmental monitoring information in an organized and effective manner.
• Support inspections and maintenance of stormwater and spill control measures throughout site as needed.
• Complete special projects or other duties as assigned.
• Support the engine tracking onsite.
• Ensure completion of all assigned tasks through the obligation register.
• Conduct environmental inspections and monitoring to support compliance with permits, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
• Collect environmental samples (e.g., water, soil, vegetation, dust, and waste) and maintain accurate field records and documentation.
• Assist with environmental audits, compliance inspections, and incident investigations, including data collection and corrective action tracking.
• Maintain environmental compliance records, databases, monitoring logs, and support the preparation of routine reports.
• Support environmental field programs, including erosion and sediment control inspections, dust management, waste management, and spill prevention activities.
• Coordinate field activities with operations personnel, contractors, and consultants to ensure environmental requirements are understood and implemented.
• Identify, document, and communicate environmental concerns, non-compliance issues, and potential risks or hazards observed in the field.
• Work independently to prioritize field inspections, monitoring activities, and multiple assignments in a dynamic operational environment.
• Provide environmental guidance and support to employees and contractors regarding site-specific requirements and best management practices.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships with operations, maintenance, contractors, and other stakeholders.
• Utilize GPS, monitoring equipment, and environmental management systems to collect, track, and report environmental data.

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Biology, Geology, Environmental Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Valid driver's license with the ability to meet company vehicle insurance requirements.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience supporting environmental compliance, monitoring, inspections, sampling, or related environmental activities preferred.
• Experience in mining, construction, manufacturing, energy, industrial, or similar operational environments preferred.
• Experience collecting environmental data and maintaining compliance records, logs, and documentation preferred.
• Experience supporting field inspections, environmental monitoring programs, and compliance-related activities.
• Internship, seasonal, volunteer, academic, or other relevant field experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated experience working safely in field environments and following established safety procedures.
• Working knowledge of environmental regulations, permits, and compliance requirements.
• Understanding of air quality, water quality, stormwater management, waste management, hazardous materials, and reclamation practices.
• Ability to conduct environmental inspections, monitoring activities, sampling, and compliance observations.
• Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques, monitoring equipment, and environmental data collection methods.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Familiarity with GPS, ArcGIS, EQuIS, or similar environmental data management systems preferred.
• Ability to maintain accurate environmental records, documentation, and compliance data.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to identify, document, and communicate environmental concerns, risks, and potential compliance issues.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
