Job summary

First Solar, Inc. is seeking a hands-on technician to assist in installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment, troubleshoot day-to-day process issues, and perform timely maintenance and repair to keep lines running efficiently.

You will identify opportunities to improve throughput, yield and product performance, and participate in the training and upskilling of production associates and technicians.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate degree in a technical discipline or 2+ years machine/maintenance experience.
• One year First Solar technical experience or EMT-related experience may apply.
• Safety mindset and hands-on troubleshooting skills required.

• Solves day-to-day production, equipment, and process problems.
• Performs on-site service and repair of equipment.
• Identifies and implements yield and product performance improvements.
• Develops methods to assign causes to yield excursions.

Basic Job Functions

• Assists in the installation and qualification of manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoots day-to-day manufacturing process and equipment issues.
• Performs, as directed, all necessary maintenance and repair of the equipment in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
• Identifies and/or implements system improvements that contribute to the achievement of throughput, yield and product performance goals.
• Participates in the training/upskilling of production associates and technicians.

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Candidates must meet ONE of the following criteria to qualify:
  • Associates degree in a technical discipline.
  • Two or more years machine or mechanic experience as a primary job function.
  • One year First Solar technical experience.
  • Six months experience as Associate EMT at First Solar and rating of "5" or higher in all relevant EMT proficiency categories.

Essential Responsibilities

• Solves day-to-day production, equipment, and process problems.
• Performs the on-site service and repair of equipment.
• Identifies and implements yield and product performance improvements.
• Accomplishes daily assignments as scheduled and as directed.
• Develops methods to assign causes to yield excursions.
• Sets up and maintains gauges.
• Ensures all processes are running on target as defined by the Process Control Plan.
• Responds to SPC process control alarms, bringing processes back into control.
• Executes planned process experiments, collects and analyzes data and reports experimental results.
• Collects data relating to daily tool performance and associated product performance.
• Transitions new equipment and processes through start-up, qualification, and implementation.
• Provides training to production associates.
• Develops and updates internal documentation including drawings, standard operating procedures, and process specifications.
• Interfaces with internal associates and supplier representatives, as required, to complete assigned projects.
• Develops a complete understanding of area processes, equipment, and support systems.
• Maintains effective communication with other members of the manufacturing team.
• Disposition non-conforming product according to established criteria (NCP).
• Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
• Ensures waste materials are discarded in their designated containers.
• Ensures hazardous waste containers stay closed except when adding or removing waste.
• Ensures satellite accumulation containers stay in their designated locations.
• Completes First Solar EMT 1 training program.
• Other duties as assigned.

Estimated Salary Range

- $18.89-$26.44 per hour

• Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
• Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including, but not limited to: steel-toed shoes, cut-resistant gloves, jackets &/or arm guards, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection & respirators) as a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).
