Position Summary

The Lung Biology Laboratory within the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a Technician B to support ongoing research investigating lung biology and immunobiology. The successful candidate will assist with laboratory experiments, animal colony maintenance, data collection, and general laboratory operations in a collaborative research environment. The incumbent will be trained in a variety of research techniques, including precision-cut lung slice technology, live-tissue confocal microscopy, protein purification, liposome preparation, flow cytometry, and core molecular biology methods such as PCR, Western blotting, and ELISA. The Technician B will also assist with the maintenance of IACUC protocols and support the preparation of scientific manuscripts, grant applications, and other research-related documents. Candidates with strong organizational, communication, and scientific writing skills are encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework or research experience in biology, immunology, physiology, molecular biology, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with standard laboratory practices and research environments.
  • Experience working with mouse models and animal research procedures.
  • Experience with confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, molecular biology techniques, and biochemical assays.
  • Experience with scientific or technical writing.
