Job summary

Silgan Plastics is seeking a Process Technician in Penn Yan, NY. You will support daily Set-up Process activities, troubleshoot blow molding equipment, perform changeovers, and ensure production runs meet quality standards.

The role requires following safety policies, working with process engineers, and collaborating with team members to maintain smooth operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience: No prior experience required, manufacturing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow Silgan Safety, Quality and GMP policies.
• Support processing issues in Penn Yan manufacturing of plastic containers.
• Communicate with plant process set up technicians to resolve issues.
• Assist process engineers by applying plastic processing knowledge to evaluate new products and improvements.
• Read and understand product drawings and specifications to identify critical features.
• Provide independent recommendations for product or process changes to meet manufacturing needs.
• Troubleshoot blow molding equipment and support when down or not producing to spec.
• Perform and assist in production machinery changeovers and setups.
• Operate forklift and run blow molding machines.
• Develop new processes and containers with process engineers.

Position Overview

Job Title: Process Technician

Job Summary

This position provides support for the daily activities in the Set-up Process department.

Key Responsibilities

• Must follow and enforce Silgan Safety, Quality and GMP policies.
• Able to support Silgan Penn Yan with processing issues in the manufacturing of plastic containers.
• Able to effectively communicate with plant process set up technicians to resolve issues.
• Capable of assisting process engineers by applying plastic processing knowledge and experience to evaluate new products and make design recommendations to improve process capability
• Ability to read and understand product part drawings and specifications and fully understand what features are critical to part function and performance.
• Able to provide independent recommendations for product design or process changes to improve product or processes based on Manufacturing needs.
• Ability to troubleshoot on blow molding equipment and support technicians when break downs occur or containers are not running to quality standards.
• Troubleshoot Bottle and Jar defects.
• Perform preventative maintenance on tooling.
• Quality Inspection requirements.
• Operate forklift.
• Operating production equipment in blow molding machines.
• Perform and assist in production machinery change overs and process set ups.
• Work closely with and support company process engineers to help develop new processes and new containers.
• Determine optimum processes to meet product performance requirements.
• Work closely with color suppliers and customer service to ensure success on all future color orders and run all new color samples.
• Some heavy lifting-up to 80 lbs.
• Leak detector knowledge a plus.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools.

Required Qualifications

Education:

• Preferred: High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

• No prior experience required, however manufacturing experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Dependable with a strong commitment to attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and quality.
• Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment.
• Willingness to perform repetitive tasks and support production operations as needed.

Physical Requirements

Work Environment: This position operates in a fast-paced light duty manufacturing environment and requires adherence to all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
• Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, arms, and upper body.
• Ability to lift, carry, and handle production materials and cartons as required.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures.

Work Schedule

2-2-3 Schedule, 8:00am-8:00pm

3-4-3 Schedule, 8:00pm-8:00am

Work 14-16 days per month!

Salary starts at $21.10 per hour, plus $1.00 per hour night shift differential

Stay on Bonus of up to $1,500.00

Referral bonus of up to $1,000.00
