Job summary

Western Digital is seeking a Metro Engineering Technician in Fremont to provide wafer disposition support and metrology tool setup across FIB, HTSEM, VSEM, AFM, KLA, and Nano. The role focuses on reducing cycle time and improving production flow, including off-shift support and first-line troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree or higher with 3+ years of hands-on metrology experience, strong analytical and communication skills, and familiarity with manufacturing

Qualifications

  • Hands-on metrology tool expertise: FIB, HTSEM, VSEM, AFM, KLA, and Nano.
  • Experience with manufacturing systems: MESA, MITECS, CAMSTAR, SPOTFIRE, SPECDB, or similar.
  • Proficient in data analysis using SQL or JMP.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Metro Engineering team in wafer disposition and production flow.
  • Set up, modify, and maintain metro recipes as directed.
  • Support qualification and operation of metro tools (FIB, HTSEM, VSEM, AFM, KLA, Nano).
  • Identify metro-related issues and take first-line corrective actions.
  • Analyze defect data and implement recipe improvements.

Job Description

The primary objective of a Metro Engineering Technician is to provide disposition support for any wafers on hold in metrology area, recipe setup support for all metrology tool sets such as FIB, HTSEM, VSEM, AFM, Nano etc, supporting Metro Engineering requests/projects during off shift. This person will play a significant role in the areas of supporting production Cycle time and WIP move by taking care of metro related issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Metro Engineering team in the Metroarea and assist manufacturing with wafer disposition and overall production flow.
  • Follow Metro Engineer instructions to set up, modify, and maintain metrorecipes.
  • Support qualification and operation of metrotools, including FIB, HTSEM, VSEM, AFM, KLA and Nano etc.
  • Identify and troubleshoot any metro related issues impacting output or product quality.
  • Analyze defect or abnormal data from FIB, HTSEM, VSEM, AFM and Nanoand take first-line actions to troubleshoot any metro related issues.
  • Recommend, document, and implement metro recipes or improvements under the direction of the MetroEngineer
Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Strong knowledge and hands‑on experience of metrology tools such as FIB, HTSEM, VSEM, AFM, KLA and Nano.
  • Working experience with manufacturing systems such as MESA, MITECS, CAMSTAR, SPOTFIRE, SPECDB, or similar applications.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as SQL, JMP, or similar query/analysis platforms.
  • Solid problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and computer skills with the ability to address minor process and equipment issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to quickly learn and apply new knowledge.

PREFERRED:

  • Associate degree or higher with 3+ years hands on experience.
  • Semiconductor/data storage wafer process experience is a plus
  • Any Metrology experience inAFM, FIB, HTSEM, VSEM, Nano is a plus

Salary Range: $84,200.00-112,300.00
