Job summary

AMETEK Programmable Power seeks a Production Technician to conduct testing, verification, and validation on production units, troubleshoot digital and analog circuits, and ensure compliance to specifications. The role follows a 1st shift, Monday–Friday, with occasional overtime on weekends.

Responsibilities include calibrating equipment, logging test data, diagnosing defects, and performing final functional tests for customer shipments in a production environment in San Diego, CA.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of related experience as a technician.
  • Electronic Technician Certificate or AS Degree in Electronic Engineering required.
  • Legal right to work in the U.S. and access to export-controlled information.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate standard and special test equipment.
  • Calibrate, align, and perform final functional tests for each unit.
  • Log production test data including model, serial, status, and failures.
  • Diagnose and remedy defective assemblies to repaired working order.
  • Troubleshoot circuitry at component level (analog and digital).
  • Report trends and initiate root-cause investigations.

Job Summary

As the Production Technician, you will be responsible for conducting a variety of tests, including manufacturing verification, engineering validation, functional performance, and ground‑fault isolation on production units. The position will troubleshoot both digital and analog circuitry to the component level, determine the cause of any malfunction, and recommend adjustments or repairs to restore the product to working order.

Shift: 1st Shift – Monday through Friday, 5:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Overtime: Work overtime Monday through Friday and on weekends occasionally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate various types of standard and specially designed test equipment.
  • Identify need for fixtures or equipment needed in support of unique or special testing requirements.
  • Calibrate, align, adjust, and perform final functional test for each unit for customer shipment. Work from specifications, test procedures, data sheets, engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and/or verbal instruction.
  • Log production test data, including work order, model number, serial number, test status (pass/fail), and failure mode.
  • Diagnose and determine cause and remedy for defective assemblies, parts, and/or components; identify, characterize, and document defects to ensure reproducibility of documented defect.
  • Troubleshoot to component level for both analog and digital circuitry.
  • Report increased trends in failures to appropriate parties, initiating root‑cause investigations.
  • Perform physical inspection of product to ensure compliance to specification and cosmetic requirements.
  • Operate equipment and instruments safely and according to proper procedures; exercise necessary precautions to prevent damage to test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience. Technician levels 3–5 will vary based on years of experience and scope of responsibilities.
  • Electronic Technician Certificate and/or AS Degree in Electronic Engineering.
  • Legal right to work in the U.S. and authorized to access export‑controlled information and source code.
  • Availability to work overtime.
Desired Qualifications
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to problem‑solve, attention to detail, and technical acumen.
  • Experience in production test and troubleshooting environment.
  • Solid background in testing, debugging, and troubleshooting electromechanical equipment to component level.
  • Experience working with standard test equipment such as oscilloscopes, RMS meters, high‑power conversion equipment, etc.
  • Ability to identify surface‑mount and through‑hole components, including component values and color coding.
  • Experience using mechanical hand tools.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex math and read, understand, and adhere to technical documents and procedures.
  • Efficient MS Word and Excel user.

Salary Range

The annual pay range for this position generally ranges between $25.00 – $40.00. Actual salaries will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. In addition, AMETEK provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee assistance program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off.
