Job summary

ND Paper in Biron, WI, is seeking a Technician for the Technical Department to support sample collection, testing and reporting results, and to provide trial support and recordkeeping assistance. This role backs up other technicians and offers exposure to diverse mill processes.

Responsibilities include performing analytical testing of wastewater and materials, maintaining SSOPs, FDA-regulated testing, and collaborating with Research, Order Management and customers on trials.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree in analytical testing.
  • 2-5 years experience working as a lab tester.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Good working skills in all Microsoft Office products.

Position Summary

Provide technician support to the Biron Mill’s Technical Department including sample collection, testing and reporting results; trial support, recordkeeping assistance, investigating and resolving problems; provide back-up relief for the Technical Department’s other technician positions and technical assistance to the department’s other various areas as assigned.

Job Title and Department

Technician – Technical Department. Reports to: Jenny Tang. Location: Biron.

Key Responsibilities & Expected Results
  • Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work.
  • Perform analytical testing on wastewater, raw materials, and papermaking process samples.
  • Perform dynamic checks of papermaking equipment for online sensors and delicels.
  • Train on additional functions such as paper testing instrument calibration, special paper testing, and assisting with special trial roll customer requests.
  • SSOP development and maintenance for all testing in the mill.
  • FDA Regulatory Testing.
  • Assist in developing new products; includes assisting with planning and running in-mill trials, coordinating with Research trial evaluation, interacting with Order Management, and customers.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Complete all regulatory-required testing in a timely manner.
  • Perform daily lab checks, including lab condition and instrument audits, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct annual SSOP audits and updates.
  • Reduce customer complaint volume.
  • Ensure crew alignment with existing quality standards and drive corrective action progress for previous claims.
  • Effective verbal and written communications with all co-workers.
Education & Experience
  • Technical degree in analytical testing or
  • 2-5 years experience working as a lab tester or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Possess good working skills in all Microsoft Office products
Working Conditions
  • Possess ambulatory capabilities to walk extensively and climb ladders and stairways; and also be able to tolerate temperature extremes while carrying out responsibilities.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and seldom up to 80 pounds.
  • Expected to work overtime and weekends as needed to assist with trials and or testing as required.
