Job summary

XPO is seeking a Diesel Mechanic in San Antonio, TX. You’ll perform routine maintenance on class 6-8 diesel equipment, diagnose issues, and repair or rebuild systems. Must have 2 years' tractor/trailer experience or tech school cert, and EPA certification within 90 days.

The role operates Monday–Friday with afternoons 2:00 PM–10:30 PM. Benefits include health insurance from day one, a $400 quarterly tool allowance, uniforms, PTO, 401(k) matching, and education assistance.

Qualifications

• 2 years of tractor/trailer inspection and repair experience or a tech school degree with certification.
• EPA HVAC Refrigerant Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS or equivalent).
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• Basic welding and mechanical skills; basic hand tools for heavy-duty maintenance.
• Ability to perform maintenance on class 6–8 diesel equipment and trailers.
• Familiarity with DOT and EPA rules; safety inspections.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment.
• Access equipment to perform maintenance and inspections; repair or rebuild systems.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose issues; perform repairs accordingly.
• Adhere to DOT, EPA, OSHA and other regulations; conduct safety inspections.
• Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas; interact with operations and shop management.
• Move trailers on-site, operate hostler; enter job times and parts on repair orders.
• Utilize specialized tooling and equipment; ensure productivity enhancements.

What you’ll need to succeed as a Diesel Mechanic at XPO

• 2 years of experience in tractor and trailer inspection and repair or a technical school degree with certification in heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance
• Obtain EPA HVAC Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling Certification within 90 days of hire (ASE, MACS or equivalent)
• A valid driver’s license
• Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC) and mechanical skills
• Basic hand tools required for heavy-duty trailer and tractor maintenance
• Basic computer skills
• Brake inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.25
• Vehicle Inspection qualified as defined in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, Section 396.19
• Available to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends

Preferred qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent work-related or military experience
• Prior mechanical experience suc h as automotive or skilled trades
• Previous or current ASE certifications
• Experience with trailer repair, diesel engine system diagnostics and preventive maintenance for tractor technicians
• Able to diagnose and repair vehicle air conditioning systems

About the Diesel Mechanic job

Pay, benefits and more:

• Experienced Technicians can earn up to $39.20/ hour including Master Certification and shift differential.

What you’ll do on a typical day:

• Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on all types of class 6 through 8 diesel equipment, forklifts, and trailing equipment
• Access any of the equipment to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under part of the equipment
• Repair or rebuild all or parts of various equipment systems
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and component issues and perform repairs accordingly
• Abide by DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other rules and regulations
• Conduct safety inspections on equipment and prepare safety documentation as needed
• Maintain proficiency with equipment and technologies that enhance productivity
• Move trailers throughout the property, operating a hostler in all types of weather
• Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity
• Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
• Ensure the work area is always clean, safe, and organized
• Interact with operations and shop management

Diesel Mechanics are required to:

• Frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift more than 75 lbs.
• Safely walk and stand for extended periods on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
• Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
• Walk and stand for extended periods on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
