Job summary

Elite Line Services (ELS) is seeking an experienced maintenance technician to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Baggage Handling Systems and Passenger Boarding Bridges at the Chicago area airport. The role includes mentoring junior staff and coordinating tasks in the absence of senior technicians.

Responsibilities include diagnosing equipment issues, interpreting manuals and schematics, and ensuring safety compliance while working in confined spaces.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous mechanical or electrical experience.
  • Ability to work a non‑traditional schedule including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Completes basic maintenance assignments involving preventive, routine and emergency maintenance, clearing system jams; shift inspections; cleaning, and electrical and mechanical adjustments.
  • Diagnoses equipment failures under guidance of senior personnel and ensures equipment is running safely.
  • Takes direction and seeks guidance from senior level personnel and accepts training and mentoring.
  • Provides direction and guidance to personnel assigned to maintenance, conducts training and mentoring; may act as lead in the absence of Sr. Technicians and/or supervisors.
  • Reads and interprets repair manuals, basic schematics and supervisor/manager instructions.
  • Works in tight and/or high spaces utilizing appropriate PPE and fall protection equipment.

Job Overview

Completes scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair of Baggage Handling Systems and/or Passenger Boarding Bridges. Mentors, trains and assigns tasks of other personnel in the absence of Senior Technicians and/or Supervisors.

Responsibilities
  • Completes basic maintenance assignments involving preventive, routine and emergency maintenance, clearing system jams; shift inspections; cleaning, and electrical and mechanical adjustments.
  • Diagnoses equipment failures under guidance of senior personnel and ensures equipment is running safely.
  • Takes direction and seeks guidance from senior level personnel and accepts training and mentoring.
  • Provides direction and guidance to personnel assigned to maintenance, conducts training and mentoring; may act as lead in the absence of Sr. Technicians and/or supervisors.
  • Reads and interprets repair manuals, basic schematics and supervisor/manager instructions.
  • Works in tight and/or high spaces utilizing appropriate PPE and fall protection equipment.
  • Follows and complies with all company and federally established policies and procedures; completes all applicable training courses assigned by the company.
  • Completes forms connected with work assignments according to established procedures.
  • Performs additional duties and assignments as may be required by management.
  • Assists with basic maintenance such as sweeping, cleaning and greasing.
  • Completes all safety training as assigned by the company.
  • Compliance with all ELS safety programs, policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous mechanical or electrical experience.
  • Ability to work a non‑traditional schedule including weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in an airport environment.
  • Experience working on conveyors and/or passenger boarding bridges.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in an industrial environment.
  • HVAC, welding/brazing, and/or plumbing knowledge and skills.
  • Minimum 2 years of previous basic electrical and/or electronic systems work experience.
  • 3+ years industrial mechanical and/or electrical background.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with PLC logic and/or Industrial HVAC certification.
  • Advanced computer skills.

Computer Skills

Basic computer knowledge at an intermediate level in working with Microsoft Windows, including Outlook, Word and Excel.

Other Requirements
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Airport Security badge.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance policy.
  • Must be able to comply with the ELS Drug and Alcohol policy.
  • Must be committed to working safely while accomplishing all tasks and promoting a safe work environment at all times.
