Thintronics is solving one of the defining challenges in modern computing: moving massive amounts of data and power between chips at unprecedented speeds and densities. As Moore's Law slows, performance is increasingly defined by advanced packaging, chiplets, and high-density substrates. Our materials technology enables new levels of interconnect density, signal integrity, and power delivery inside next-generation semiconductor packages. We partner directly with leading IDMs, foundries, substrate manufacturers, and OSATs building the most advanced AI and HPC platforms in the world.
Thintronics is a start-up company located in Alameda, CA. We are a team of chemists, materials scientists, and engineers shaping the future of data and devices. We offer an exciting start-up environment at the interface of R&D, machine learning-aided product design, manufacturing, and rapid market implementation.
Job Role - Who We Want
- The DART (Dielectrically Advanced Resin Technology) and AIM (Analytical Intelligence for Materials) teams at Thintronics are looking for two Technicians to make formulations and perform analytical testing on dielectric film and resin samples.
- In this hands-on laboratory role, you will follow established procedures to prepare and test samples, accurately document results, and help maintain laboratory instruments to ensure our teams make decisions based on reliable and reproducible data.
- This position is primarily focused on executing established laboratory and testing procedures rather than designing experiments or developing new analytical methods. We are looking for someone who is dependable, detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable performing standardized procedures consistently.
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare new formulations as designed and instructed by the DART team.
- Perform analytical testing of materials and samples according to established standard operating procedures (SOPs), test methods, and protocols.
- Follow documented procedures carefully and consistently to support accurate and reproducible results.
- Maintain complete and accurate records, including raw data, sample identification, test conditions, and relevant observations.
- Identify and promptly communicate unexpected results, deviations, equipment issues, or other observations requiring review.
- Perform routine instrument calibration, preventive maintenance, and basic first-line troubleshooting in accordance with established procedures and training.
- Enter and organize test results using spreadsheets, electronic laboratory notebooks, databases, or other company systems.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe laboratory work environment while following applicable laboratory, chemical-handling, environmental health and safety, and company procedures.
- Communicate testing results and instrument status to scientists, engineers, and other team members.
- Manage multiple samples and testing priorities while maintaining accurate sample identification and documentation.
- Depending on business and laboratory needs, work a schedule that may include hours before or after the traditional 9:00 AM-5:00 PM workday. Work schedules will be established and communicated in accordance with applicable wage-and-hour requirements.
- Perform other duties reasonably related to the position as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education or experience.
- Ability to understand and consistently follow written procedures, safety instructions, and step-by-step laboratory protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Basic computer skills and ability to enter and organize data electronically.
- Ability to organize multiple samples and tasks while maintaining accurate identification and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Ability to work the schedule established for the position, which may include earlier or later hours depending on laboratory needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree, technical certificate, or coursework in chemistry, materials science, engineering technology, manufacturing, or a related field. A bachelor's degree is not required.
- Previous laboratory, manufacturing, production, or quality-control experience.
- Experience working in an environment governed by SOPs, standardized testing procedures, or quality systems.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as TGA, DSC, DMA, TMA, FTIR, rheometers or viscometers, microscopes, or universal testing machines such as Instron or Zwick.
- Ability to quickly learn instrument-specific trainings, which will be provided on equipment and procedures as appropriate.
- Experience with spreadsheets, electronic laboratory notebooks, laboratory information systems, or similar data-recording tools.
Physical Requirements
The following requirements reflect activities that may be necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for qualified individuals with disabilities in accordance with applicable law.
- Work in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment and remain standing or moving for significant portions of the workday.
- Regularly move, transport, position, or handle materials, samples, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Perform laboratory and manufacturing activities that may involve bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, handling samples and equipment, and working around laboratory or production equipment.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow applicable laboratory and workplace safety procedures.
- Work safely in an environment where chemicals, laboratory materials, and operating equipment may be present.
- This is an hourly, non-exempt position expected to work on-site a minimum of approximately 35 hours per week.
- Pay range: $28.00-$33.00 per hour.
- The anticipated hourly pay range represents the range Thintronics reasonably expects to pay for this position at the time of posting.
