Technical Writer, IBCS-M
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise, technology, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, computer vision, sensor fusion, and networking technology to the military in months, not years.
About The Job
We are seeking an organized, mission-driven, and detail-oriented Technical Writer to partner directly with our engineering, product, and operations teams to build and scale world-class technical documentation. At the intersection of advanced hardware, software, robotics, and autonomy, technical documentation plays a critical role in national security—ensuring that front-line operators, defense customers, and internal engineering teams have accurate, actionable, and timely information.
What You’ll Do
- Author & Maintain Core Documentation: Research, write, and maintain a broad spectrum of technical documentation across hardware and software product lines, including Operator Guides, Maintenance Manuals, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Data Sheets, Release Notes, and Troubleshooting Procedures.
- Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate closely with systems, hardware, software, and test engineers, as well as product managers and operations teams, to translate complex technical architectures into clear, user-friendly documentation.
- Standardize & Scale: Establish and maintain documentation style guides, standard operating procedures, and templates across tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, and engineering repositories to reduce technical debt and support team scalability.
- Drive Documentation Roadmaps: Proactively identify documentation gaps, plan and track deliverables against product release cycles and program milestones, and communicate delivery risks to leadership.
- Support Defense & Program Deliverables: Ensure customer- and contract-required technical data packages meet quality, format, and compliance guidelines (e.g., military standards and government delivery requirements).
- Champion User Experience: Advocate for the end user—from internal developers to active-duty military operators—by ensuring all technical content is intuitive, accurate, and structurally organized for rapid operational use.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of technical writing experience developing documentation for complex hardware, software, or integrated systems.
- Proven ability to read, interpret, and synthesize complex engineering concepts, schematics, and technical specifications into concise, usable content.
- Exceptional written, editorial, and verbal communication skills tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience collaborating directly with engineering and product teams throughout the entire product lifecycle (design, build, test, and deployment).
- Proficiency with modern technical documentation tools and content management platforms (e.g., Confluence, Jira, SharePoint, XML, Markdown, or Word).
- Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, prioritize competing demands, and meet deliverables in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and possess, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, an active U.S. Secret security clearance (or higher).
- In this role, you will be subject to pre-employment and randomized substance screening, as required by the Company.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within aerospace, defense, robotics, autonomy, or high-consequence hardware/software manufacturing environments.
- Working knowledge of military/DoD technical documentation standards (e.g., MIL-STD-40051, S1000D, IETMs).
- Familiarity with systems engineering artifacts such as Interface Control Documents (ICDs), system specifications, and Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) documentation.
- Experience with “docs-as-code” workflows, API documentation, or automation tooling used to manage high-volume technical documentation systems.
