Job summary

Peterson Technologies is seeking a seasoned technical writer to generate and maintain documentation for DoD programs and cryptologic systems. You will collaborate with engineers to craft manuals, user guides, and training materials, translating complex data into accessible text.

Required are eight years of technical writing experience and a technical degree; NSA DS-89 standards familiarity is a plus. Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits available in Maryland.

Qualifications

• Eight years’ experience as a technical writer required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline required.
• Master’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• Four years of additional TW experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
• Experience producing defense acquisition and user manuals.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and maintenance docs.
• Familiarity with NSA DS-89 technical manual standard.

Responsibilities

• Under general direction, write technical copy for program/project documents of similar complexity.
• Apply concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings and docs.
• Produce defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other docs for end users of DoD equipment.
• Interpret drawings and procedures to blend large quantities of computer-related information.
• Research highly technical subjects from multiple sources and present clearly.
• Prepare operations documentation, user guides and manuals and technical publications.
• Gathers technical information and prepares written text.
• Uses MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio, etc.

Qualification

Eight (8) years’ experience as a TW in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required. Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university is required. A Master’s degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience, reducing the requirement to six (6) years of experience. Four (4) years of additional TW experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.

• -Under general direction, responsible for writing technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity


• - Applies concepts for technical writing based on engineering drawings, technical information from engineering documentation, consultations with engineers and subject matter experts, and other available sources


• - Produces defense acquisition documentation, user manuals, training manuals, and other documentation utilized by the end-user community of DoD electronic equipment and systems


• - Interprets engineering and maintenance drawings, operational procedures and to understand and blend large quantities of computer related information


• -Researches highly technical subject matter, organizes information from multiple sources, and expresses technical information in written form that is comprehensible to a wide audience of readers


• - Produces technical documentation for Cryptologic programs or projects developing analytic tradecraft methodologies


• - Applies technical manual standard NSA DS-89 to work products


• -Understands basic concepts, responsible for writing technical copy for various types of documents for a program/project of similar complexity


• - Responsible for preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides and manuals and technical publications


• -Responsible for preparing reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences


• - Works with developers to produce quality documentation and training materials


• - Coordinates layout and design of documents


• - Works on all phases of documentation


• - Understands basic concepts (to include basic grammar concepts), responsible for writing technical copy for various types of documents


• - Assists in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, user guides and manual and technical publications


• - Gathers technical information, prepares written text


• - May maintain a current internal documentation library


• - Uses multiple word processing and presentation tools such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Visio, etc.

Requirements

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.

Salary depends upon experience level, the range is $150,000 - $180,000.
