Position Summary

Vertiv Structures is seeking a hands‑on Technical Trainer to support the development, cross‑training, and continued growth of team members throughout our metal fabrication and modular manufacturing operations.

The Technical Trainer will deliver classroom, hands‑on, and production‑floor training; develop and maintain OJT/SOJT materials; assess employee competency; and partner with Operations and technical subject matter experts to ensure training accurately reflects current processes, safety requirements, quality standards, and production expectations.

The ideal candidate will have broad manufacturing knowledge with experience in areas such as structural steel fabrication, welding, CNC or laser operations, assembly, quality, material handling, or similar industrial processes. Formal trainer experience is preferred but is not required for an individual with strong technical knowledge and a demonstrated ability to teach, coach, or mentor others.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom, hands‑on, OJT/SOJT, and production‑floor training for new and existing team members.
• Demonstrate manufacturing processes, tools, equipment, work instructions, and safe work methods.
• Coach employees during skill development and evaluate competency through observation, practical demonstrations, assessments, and documented qualification activities.
• Support onboarding, cross‑training, refresher training, upskilling, and introduction of new processes or equipment.
• Develop and maintain training materials, including presentations, work instructions, visual aids, assessments, checklists, OJT/SOJT documentation, and hands‑on learning activities.
• Work with supervisors and subject matter experts to identify skill gaps and establish training priorities.
• Observe production processes to ensure training remains aligned with actual work practices, current documentation, engineering requirements, and quality expectations.
• Maintain accurate training records, rosters, assessments, and completion information within our LMS - Vertiv Learning and other applicable systems.
• Support training documentation, revision control, reporting, and audit readiness.
• Reinforce Vertiv safety requirements, 5S, standardized work, quality expectations, and continuous improvement throughout training.
• Spend significant time within production areas to maintain familiarity with processes and support employees as they transition from training to independent work.

Manufacturing & Technical Knowledge

The Technical Trainer should possess broad manufacturing knowledge and the ability to develop working knowledge of processes throughout Vertiv Structures, including:

• Structural steel fabrication and modular or prefabricated manufacturing.
• MIG/GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding processes and common welding terminology.
• Joint preparation, fit‑up, welding symbols, basic weld quality, common defects, and workmanship expectations.
• General awareness of WPS/PQR documentation and AWS D1.1 requirements applicable to structural fabrication.
• Blueprint, fabrication drawing, BOM, work order, specification, and work‑instruction interpretation.
• CNC laser, plasma, press brake, cutting, grinding, drilling, and other common fabrication processes.
• Machine setup and operation concepts, material loading, basic troubleshooting, operator inspections, and routine equipment care.
• Structural steel shapes, grades, dimensions, identification, staging, and material flow.
• Measurement and inspection using tools such as tape measures, calipers, micrometers, squares, levels, and gauges.
• Dimensional requirements, tolerances, visual inspection, defect identification, nonconformance escalation, and basic quality practices.
• Structural and modular assembly, fasteners, torque requirements, component installation, fit, alignment, and production sequencing.
• Receiving and material‑control concepts, including material verification, labeling, staging, inventory transactions, and basic ERP/WMS use.
• Safe material handling and general awareness of forklifts, cranes, hoists, rigging, and other equipment used within the facility.
• Manufacturing safety requirements including PPE, machine and tool safety, hot work, Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout awareness, material handling, and workplace hazard identification.

Subject Matter Expert Partnership

No single Technical Trainer is expected to possess expert‑level certification in every manufacturing discipline represented within Vertiv Structures.

The Technical Trainer must instead demonstrate the ability to:

• Learn unfamiliar technical processes quickly.
• Identify and work effectively with qualified subject matter experts.
• Observe and document technical work accurately.
• Ask appropriate technical questions.
• Validate training content with responsible departments.
• Distinguish between training guidance and formal technical authority.
• Escalate questions requiring Engineering, Quality, EHS, Maintenance, or regulatory interpretation.
• Convert expert knowledge into standardized training that can be understood by employees with varying levels of experience.

Subject matter experts may include experienced welders, AWS Certified Welding Inspectors, Quality Inspectors, Engineers, CNC operators and programmers, Maintenance technicians, Logistics and Receiving personnel, Production supervisors, certified instructors, and experienced assemblers and fabricators.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience in manufacturing, metal fabrication, structural steel, welding, machining, industrial assembly, modular construction, or a related industrial environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work instructions, and technical documentation.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing tools, processes, quality expectations, and safe work practices.
• Ability to learn technical processes and explain them clearly to others.
• Strong verbal, written, coaching, and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation accuracy.
• Advanced computer proficiency.
• Ability to work effectively with employees, production leadership, and cross‑functional departments.
• Ability to work extensively within an active manufacturing environment and adapt to changing production and training priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience training, coaching, or mentoring employees in manufacturing.

• Structural steel fabrication or welding experience.
• Knowledge of MIG/GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding processes.
• Familiarity with welding symbols, WPS/PQR documentation, or AWS D1.1.
• CNC laser, plasma, press brake, or other fabrication‑equipment experience.
• Experience with modular or prefabricated construction.
• Quality inspection or dimensional‑measurement experience.
• Receiving, logistics, material‑control, ERP, or WMS experience.
• Experience with Lean manufacturing, 5S, or standardized work.
• Experience developing OJT/SOJT programs or technical training materials.
• LMS experience and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Knowledge of adult‑learning principles.
• Train‑the‑Trainer or other recognized instructor certification.

Formal welding, equipment, safety, or instructor certifications are considered a plus but are not required for this position unless specifically required for an assigned training activity.

The trainer is not expected to be the facility's expert in every technical discipline. Success in this role requires broad manufacturing knowledge, the ability to learn quickly, strong partnerships with subject matter experts, and the ability to transform technical knowledge into practical, standardized, and effective employee training.
