Job summary

The Berkshire Gas Company in Adams, MA is seeking a Technical Trainer to develop, deliver, and administer training for Gas Operations personnel. The role creates curriculum, explains complex concepts, manages LMS scheduling, and evaluates training effectiveness, partnering with Operations to source Subject Matter Experts.

Required 3+ years in natural gas or related technical field, degree in engineering or instructional design, knowledge of 49 CFR 191/192/193 and MA 220 CMR, plus strong

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years in natural gas or related technical field.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or instructional design.
  • Technical knowledge: natural gas properties, pipeline construction/maintenance, gas safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of 49 CFR Parts 191, 192, 193; MA 220 CMR.
  • Operator Qualification programs and written plans.
  • Ability to design and conduct effective training programs and manage learning environments.
  • 2+ years of prior training experience.
  • Preferred: completed apprentice program or relevant trade qualifications.
  • Strong mentor and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver training related to natural gas distribution and transmission systems.
  • Create and maintain training materials: lesson plans, presentations, assessments, hands-on exercises, simulations.
  • Deliver classroom, field, virtual, and blended learning programs for employees and contractors.
  • Assess training effectiveness and implement improvements based on feedback and results.
  • Manage training resources and ensure materials/equipment are up-to-date.
  • Monitor adherence to procedures and safety requirements; follow-up assessments.
  • Stay current on industry codes, standards, technologies, and regulatory changes.
  • Collaborate with Gas Operations, Engineering, Safety, and management to align training with needs.
  • Evaluate trainee performance and coaching to enhance technical competencies.

This role creates curriculum, explains complex technical concepts, manages scheduling and documentation through the Company’s Learning Management Systems (LMS), evaluates training effectiveness, and partners with Operations to secure Subject Matter Experts as needed. The position requires strong communication skills, flexibility to meet organizational needs, and knowledge of natural gas operations, knowledge of Federal and State regulations within PHMSA 49 CFR 192 and Massachusetts 220 CMR, and thorough knowledge of all Company procedures.
