Job summary

Emerging Tech in Florida seeks a Technical Tester to execute cybersecurity testing procedures under the direction of the Technical Lead and SMEs. You will perform vulnerability scanning, configuration validation, control testing, and evidence collection for audit readiness.

This role requires 5+ years of security assessment experience, Florida residency, and collaboration with government stakeholders across multiple environments. Remote work is available for Florida-based candidates.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on testing; perform vulnerability scanning, validation, log analysis, and cloud security assessments.
  • Experience with adversary simulations, privilege escalation testing, access control validation, and monitoring reviews.
  • Proficiency with Nessus, OpenVAS, Burp Suite and related tools; familiarity with Windows security tools.
  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automating tests and evidence collection.
  • Ability to produce audit-ready testing workpapers and technical evidence packages.
  • Knowledge of NIST CSF and state requirements (Rule 60GG-2, F.A.C).
  • 5+ years of security assessment experience; Florida residency required.
  • Experience with endpoint/server/database/network device assessments and risk remediation.

Responsibilities

  • Execute approved testing procedures precisely and document any deviation.
  • Perform vulnerability scanning, configuration reviews, control validation, and cloud security assessments.
  • Conduct controlled adversary simulations and privilege escalation testing; validate access controls.
  • Capture and preserve technical evidence with accurate timestamps for audit reviews.
  • Assemble workpapers and complete evidence packages for QA review.
  • Verify remediation effectiveness and document results against findings.
  • Analyze logs and monitoring data to support testing and detection validation.
  • Escalate anomalous system behavior per stop-work procedures.

Job description

Location: Florida, Remote

Tallahassee metro preferred, within 50 miles

Candidates must reside in Florida

Compensation: $85,000–$100,000

Employment Type: Full Time, W-2

Positions: 2 FTEs

Reports To: Project Manager, with day to day technical direction from the Deputy Project Manager / Technical Lead and Senior SMEs

Role Overview

The Technical Tester will perform hands on execution of approved cybersecurity testing procedures under the direction of the Technical Lead and Senior Cybersecurity Subject Matter Experts.

This role will conduct vulnerability scanning, configuration validation, control testing, controlled adversary simulation activities, log analysis, remediation verification, and technical evidence collection. The Technical Tester will be responsible for ensuring that testing activities and evidence are complete, accurate, reproducible, and suitable for audit or compliance review.

Key Responsibilities
  • Execute approved testing procedures precisely as written and document any deviation, interruption, or anomaly
  • Perform vulnerability scanning, configuration reviews, control validation, and cloud security assessments
  • Execute controlled adversary simulation steps, privilege escalation testing, and access control validation
  • Capture and preserve technical evidence with synchronized timestamps suitable for audit review
  • Assemble testing workpapers and complete evidence packages for quality assurance review
  • Perform remediation verification testing and document results against the original finding
  • Analyze logs and monitoring activity to support testing and detection validation
  • Immediately elevate anomalous or unexpected system behavior in accordance with established stop work procedures
Required Technical Skills
  • Hands on experience performing vulnerability scanning, control validation, log analysis, configuration reviews, and cloud security assessments
  • Experience executing controlled adversary simulations, privilege escalation testing, access control validation, and monitoring effectiveness reviews
  • Proficiency with tools such as Nessus, OpenVAS, Burp Suite, BloodHound, Kali Linux, Wazuh, Elastic Stack, Wireshark, and Nmap
  • Familiarity with Microsoft security technologies including Active Directory, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra ID, and Microsoft Sentinel
  • Scripting proficiency in PowerShell, Python, or Bash sufficient to automate repeatable testing steps and evidence collection
  • Ability to collect and preserve technical evidence suitable for audit review
  • Experience performing endpoint, server, database, and network device assessments
  • Knowledge of vulnerability scoring, risk prioritization, and remediation verification
  • Ability to create detailed testing workpapers and technical evidence packages
  • Working understanding of NIST CSF and state cybersecurity technical requirements, including Rule 60GG-2, F.A.C
Minimum Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience conducting technical security assessments, vulnerability testing, or cybersecurity operations
  • Demonstrated experience producing technical documentation suitable for audit or compliance review
  • Experience working to written procedures under supervision in production environments
  • Must reside in the state of Florida

Working Conditions

This is a remote position for Florida based candidates. The Tallahassee metro area, within approximately 50 miles, is preferred.

The role requires hands on cybersecurity testing, detailed technical documentation, evidence collection, and coordination with technical leads, cybersecurity SMEs, and government stakeholders across multiple testing environments.
