Job summary

Lucid Motors seeks an experienced Functional Safety Engineer to lead requirements, analyses, and readiness activities across vehicle systems in a 100% onsite role in Southfield, MI. You will collaborate with hardware, software, systems, validation, and suppliers to ensure safety compliance.

The position requires 8+ years in functional safety, ISO 26262 mastery, and experience delivering major safety work products and SOTIF analyses. Strong writing and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of functional safety or closely related engineering experience.
• Extensive knowledge of ISO 26262.
• Proven experience developing major ISO 26262 functional safety work products.
• Experience performing HARA and developing functional and technical safety requirements.
• At least 1 year of SOTIF analysis and work-product development experience.
• Experience leading functional safety analyses for automotive systems or products.
• Experience supporting external or third-party functional safety reviews.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve HARA, Functional Safety Requirements, Technical Safety Requirements, and validation tests.
• Define and evaluate vehicle architectures from a functional safety perspective.
• Develop functional safety concepts for system, hardware, and software components.
• Lead functional safety processes, tools, readiness activities, and program metrics.
• Develop SOTIF requirements for autonomous-driving systems and core subsystems.
• Review Development Interface Agreements and supplier functional safety documentation.
• Work with cross-functional teams on hazard analysis and safety concepts.
• Support functional safety validation testing.
• Define functional safety interfaces between internal teams, suppliers, and project partners.
• Support third-party reviews of functional safety work products.
• Advocate for functional safety throughout hardware and software development.

About The Role

Lucid Motors is seeking an experienced Functional Safety Engineer with deep hands-on expertise applying ISO 26262 within an automotive OEM or Tier 1 environment. This senior-level engineer will lead functional safety requirements, analyses, processes, architecture decisions, and readiness activities across vehicle systems while collaborating closely with hardware, software, systems, validation, suppliers, and leadership teams.

Education
