Job summary

Lucid Motors is seeking a Technical Specialist, CAE Crashworthiness in Michigan to lead full-vehicle crash simulations and provide design guidance. You will build high-fidelity CAE models, run LS-DYNA based simulations, and generate reports for cross-functional teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, apply DOE/DFSS methods, and ensure compliance with global safety standards while coordinating with design and testing groups in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Masters preferred.
• 8+ years of full-vehicle crashworthiness CAE experience in automotive OEM or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of global safety regulations (FMVSS/UNECE/USNCAP).
• Proven ability to analyze CAE results and drive design decisions.
• Proficient in LS-DYNA and CAE toolchain (Ansa/Meta, Oasys, Hyperworks, CATIA).

Responsibilities

• Execute simulations to evaluate full vehicle crashworthiness across frontal, side, rear, and pedestrian protection.
• Generate design recommendations in collaboration with engineering teams.
• Assist in building high-fidelity CAE models from CAD data.
• Create analysis reports and communicate status to teams.
• Participate in post-test teardowns to correlate CAE with physical tests.
• Conduct DOE/DFSS studies using optimization tools to meet constraints.
• Develop standard work procedures for quality CAE delivery.

We are currently seeking a Technical Specialist, CAE Crashworthiness. This position requires an experienced professional with a balance approach to CAE and testing. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches his or her work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.

The Role

• Execute simulations to evaluate full vehicle structural crashworthiness performance for high and low speed frontal, side, rear impact and pedestrian protection


• Generate feasible vehicle design recommendations, working cross functionally with engineering teams.


• Assist with building a high-fidelity CAE model from CAD data.


• Create analysis reports and communicate program status to relevant teams.


• Participate in post-test teardowns to correlate CAE results to physical tests.


• Where appropriate, conduct DOE/DFSS studies by utilizing optimization tools on vehicle designs to meet performance requirements within the constraints of conflicting attributes such cost and mass.


• Support the creation of standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results.


• Lead/mentor junior engineers

Qualifications

• This position requires an experienced professional with a balanced approach to CAE and testing


• Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches their work with vigor and determination


• 8+ years’ experience in full vehicle crashworthiness CAE working for an automotive OEM or equivalent experience


• Knowledge of global regulatory and consumer safety requirements: FMVSS, UNECE, USNCAP, IIHS, Euro NCAP, China NCAP etc...


• Strong analytical skills to draw meaningful conclusions from CAE results


• Demonstrable experience of root causing test performance and correlation of CAE models


• Demonstrable ability to concisely present technical issues, CAE results, findings and propose next steps


• Advanced user of LS-DYNA and pre/post processing tools such as: Ansa/Meta, Oasys suite, Hyperworks


• Scripting using Python


• Experience with CAD, CATIA is a plus

Education

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Master’s or higher degree is preferred.

Hourly/non-exempt employees accrue up to 120 hours paid time off, and salaried/exempt employee accrue up to 160 hours paid time off.
