Job summary

Larson Design Group is seeking a Technical Specialist to collaborate with the design team, ensure technical accuracy, and oversee work performed by others across design disciplines. The role includes assisting with scope and fee estimates for small to moderate projects within multi-disciplinary efforts.

Ideal candidates have a technical degree and extensive experience, with proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation/InRoads, and hydrologic/hydraulic software, plus strong communication

Your Opportunity + Impact

The Technical Specialist collaborates closely with the design technical team and contributes to all stages and disciplines of design projects. Serving as a subject-matter expert, this role ensures the technical accuracy and quality of assigned work and oversees aspects of work performed by others. The Technical Specialist also assists the Project Team in developing scope and fee estimates for small to moderate single-disciplinary projects or specific disciplines within multi-disciplinary projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participates in planning and design tasks, prepares construction documents, and supports the successful delivery of projects under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Provides technical expertise on complex projects, offering reliable input and support throughout all project stages.
  • Builds and maintains strong cross-departmental and interdisciplinary relationships to promote collaboration and project success.
  • Applies in-depth knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations to ensure compliance and high-quality design work.
  • Conducts QA/QC reviews of project submissions to maintain consistent and accurate deliverables.
  • Assists in developing project schedules, preparing technical proposals, and estimating labor hours to support planning and execution.
  • Collaborates with project teams to clarify, implement, and successfully deliver the defined scope of work.
  • Promotes and follows established quality assurance and quality control processes to improve outcomes and minimize errors.
  • Prepares and verifies design calculations, drafts technical specifications, and contributes to accurate cost estimates.
Education and Experience
  • Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in a Technical discipline preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of fifteen (15) years' job-related experience.
  • Licensure/Certification: n/a
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrates a strong desire to expand knowledge and take on new responsibilities within the field.
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation/InRoads, and/or Hydrologic and Hydraulic Software Packages to be used for Site Layout, Grading, Utility, and Storm Water Management Plan design and/or other discipline-specific programs preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet project deadlines effectively.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
