Job summary

The Stephen B. Luce Library at SUNY Maritime College seeks a forward-thinking and collaborative Technical Services Librarian to join a highly engaged team. The successful candidate will provide leadership for cataloging, metadata management, collection development and technical services operations.

The collections include the Stephen B. Luce Library, the Ship's Library, and the Maritime Heritage collection.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or equivalent.
• Experience creating and maintaining bibliographic metadata and performing original/copy cataloging.
• Knowledge of cataloging/metadata standards: RDA, MARC21, LC Classification, LCSH.

Responsibilities

• Lead cataloging and metadata management for diverse collections.
• Develop collection development policies and technical services workflows.
• Collaborate with librarians to optimize discovery and access to resources.
• Support SOAR repository growth and interoperability across data repositories.
• Assist with reference, circulation and information literacy when assigned.

Job Description

The Stephen B. Luce Library at SUNY Maritime College seeks a forward-thinking and collaborative Technical Services Librarian to join a highly engaged team. The successful candidate will provide leadership for cataloging, metadata management, collection development and technical services operations. The collections include the Stephen B. Luce Library, the Ship's Library, and the Maritime Heritage collection. This position will work closely with the Discovery & Electronic Resources Librarian and Acquisitions & Resource Sharing Specialist.

• Lead library's efforts in developing and maintaining a current library collection that serves the needs of the SUNY Maritime College community through selection, processing, deselection, assessment and ongoing collection maintenance.
• Perform original cataloging and import vendor-ready records for books, serials, and government documents and create, edit and maintain bibliographic and metadata records using current standards and best practices
• Create and maintain collection development policies, technical services procedures and workflows to support efficient discovery and access to library collections.
• Develop and apply emerging metadata schemas and best practices to facilitate interoperability among multiple data repositories, improve the discoverability of institutional content, and support the growth and management of Maritime's SUNY Open Access Repository (SOAR).
• Process incoming print donations in conjunction with the Library Director
• Work closely with the Acquisitions and Resource Sharing Specialist to order and receive print and electronic content within the library's materials budget
• Support library user services including reference, circulation and teaching information literacy instruction as assigned.
• Collaborate with Discovery and Electronic Resources Librarian to optimize access to print and electronic resources.
• Collaborate with the Archivist on outreach, training and support to faculty, students and staff on copyright, fair use, open access, open education and scholarly publishing.
• Represent SUNY Maritime on SUNY Shared Library Services committees related to collections and technical services
• Participate in college service, publication, and other professional and scholarly activities as required for promotion and tenure
• Additional duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited school or an ALA- approved foreign equivalent
• Experience creating and maintaining bibliographic metadata such as performing original and/or copy cataloging using established cataloging standards
• Knowledge of cataloging and metadata standards, including RDA, MARC21, Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Ability to work independently and perform complicated tasks with minimal supervision
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing assignments, library procedures, priorities and information technology needs

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an academic or research library
• Experience with special collections
• Experience with Federal Depository Library Program or government documents
• Experience with Ex Libris's Alma or another integrated library system/library services platform.
• Familiarity with library technologies and platforms such as SpringShare products, discovery services, digital collection platforms, institutional repositories.
• Ability to gather, analyze, and report data.
• Experience assessing collections and using data to support collection development and man
