POSITION SUMMARY

The Technical Service Engineer provides technical support to customers, Sales, and product development teams through product selection, application guidance, laboratory testing, and performance evaluation. This role applies chemical and materials engineering principles to plan and conduct testing, interpret results, and translate customer needs into practical recommendations and technical documentation. This early-career engineering position serves as an important technical connection between Cortec and its customers. The role helps resolve product and application challenges, improve product performance, and identify opportunities for growth and innovation while collaborating with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support customers and Sales with product selection, product use, testing, performance evaluation, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Plan and conduct laboratory experiments using established methods to support product recommendations, customer applications, and new application development.
  • Manage assigned projects from intake through testing, documentation, and reporting.
  • Analyze test results and provide practical technical recommendations, seeking guidance or escalating complex issues when appropriate.
  • Assist with product performance concerns, complaint investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action activities.
  • Translate customer needs into technical projects and collaborate with R&D and other teams to develop solutions.
  • Develop and maintain test reports, application guides, test methods, technical communications, and other documentation.
  • Work with Sales and Marketing to develop technical content for presentations, training materials, and product launches.
  • Support customer visits, product trials, demonstrations, and customer or distributor training as needed.
  • Share feedback regarding customer trends, application needs, and product performance requirements with internal stakeholders.
  • Follow Cortec safety, quality, regulatory, laboratory, and documentation requirements.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, materials science, materials engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • 0-2 years of experience in technical service, applications engineering, product support, laboratory testing, or a related engineering environment within the chemical, manufacturing, or a related industry.
  • Relevant internship or co-op experience may be considered.
WORK LOCATION AND TRAVEL
  • Location: Cortec Corporate Headquarters, White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
  • Travel: Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% for customer visits, trials, demonstrations, and other business needs.
  • Schedule: Standard business hours with flexibility to support department needs.
  • Classification: Exempt; no supervisory responsibilities.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $75,000–$84,000 annually. This range represents Cortec’s good‑faith estimate of the compensation available for this position at the time of posting. It is not typical for an individual to be hired or placed near either the bottom or top of the anticipated salary range. Actual starting pay will be determined based on job‑related factors such as relevant experience, education, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.

This position is eligible for Cortec Corporation’s comprehensive benefits program, which currently includes medical, dental, vision, and short- and long-term disability coverage; a 401(k)-retirement plan with a 3% company safe harbor contribution; paid time off; paid holidays; and other benefits and programs in accordance with company policy.
