Job summary

Shin-Etsu Silicones of America seeks a Technical Service Applications Engineer to provide process support and testing of RTV products using various mixing, coating, dispensing, and curing equipment. The role includes maintenance of equipment used for customer trials and in-house development.

The ideal candidate has an AS degree or 2+ years in mechanical maintenance, with strong technical aptitude and knowledge of silicone processing.

Qualifications

  • Associates of Applied Science degree or 2+ years in mechanical/maintenance roles required.
  • Silicone processing knowledge is strongly preferred.
  • High technical aptitude and strong mechanical skillset.
  • Ability to run laboratory and production equipment; proficient with MS Office.
  • Experience with 3D printing and modeling software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide process support and testing for RTV Team products using lab equipment.
  • Mix small batches and generate accurate test data.
  • Collaborate with supervisor on special testing requests for sales support.
  • Travel to customer sites to set up and run equipment for product trials as needed (~20%).
  • Maintain and prepare all dispensing equipment for trials and demonstrations.
  • Document testing results and maintain equipment usage history.
  • Develop sales support tools and sample kits for customers and sales team.

Job description

Position Purpose: The Technical Service Applications Engineer is responsible for providing process support and testing RTV Team products using a variety of mixing, coating, dispensing, and curing equipment. This person is also responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of SESA owned mixing, coating, dispensing, and curing equipment that is used to demonstrate products at customer locations and for in house processes development.

Responsibilities:

  • Mix small scale batches from a Lab Work Order provided by supervisor.
  • Provide accurate test data from each batch.
  • Work with supervisor to develop and perform special testing processes requests for use in supporting the RTV sales team.
  • Create sales support tools for the sales team/customers to use our materials (sample kits, etc.).
  • Upon request of RSM and approval of both the supervisor and manager, travel to customers and assemble, run, disassemble, and prepare for shipping all necessary dispensing equipment to facilitate product trials at the end use customer.
  • Maintain and have prepared for immediate shipment all SESA owned meter/mix and dispensing equipment that may be used for trials at end users.
  • Maintain an accurate record of all equipment used for outside trials and their maintenance and use history.
  • Maintain knowledge of spray, coating, dispensing, and curing systems used by the RTV team.
  • When requested by an RSM, and approved by supervisor, run appropriate coating, spraying, dispensing, and curing trials in house using in house equipment. Report results in TS&D Report format, noting all testing protocols and results.
  • Maintain accurate records of all testing performed and materials used in a library for future reference by other TS&D personnel and the outside sales team.
  • Travel to manufacturers of coating, spraying, dispensing, and curing systems to increase knowledge base on said products.
  • Develop positive relationships within the coating, spraying, dispensing, and curing systems manufacturing base to facilitate knowledge sharing and support.
  • Travel to and assist at tradeshows with the delivery, set up, running, tear down, and return shipment of all equipment used to demonstrate RTV group products.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Associates of Applied Science degree or a minimum of 2 years' experience in a mechanical or maintenance role required. Prior knowledge of silicone processing and technology strongly preferred.

Technical:

Must have a high technical aptitude and strong mechanical skillset. Must have ability to run all laboratory and production equipment. Must be familiar with the Microsoft Office Package (Excel, Word, Outlook). Experience with 3D printing and modeling software is a plus.

Communications:

Good verbal, written, and interpersonal skills required. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to behave in a professional manner and have a good understanding of proper email and personal etiquette. Ability to present in a public presentation.

Leadership:

The ability to take direction and to carry out instructions from the supervisor in an orderly and efficient manner. Must have the ability to function as a team member in a closely knit group. Must be punctual, and have a proven attendance record.

Work Style:

Must possess strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills. Must be proactive in your approach to all issues in order to identify or eliminate potential problem areas. Must be able to work independently and in groups and be self-motivated in both settings.

This position operates primarily in a research and development laboratory as well as a professional office environment. The lab role routinely uses equipment such as Double Planetary Mixers, Dough Mixers, Speed Mixers, Tensometers, Rheometers, etc. The office role routinely uses standard office equipment.
