Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, Maine seeks an electrician with Scenic Electrics experience to support Scene Shop with installation of electrical elements/effects within scenery & props for the 2026 Season productions including The Producers & Small Town. Ideal candidates must be detail-oriented and operate well in a fast-paced environment.

Prior theatrical electrician experience is required, with scene shop experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to Technical Director.
  • Collaborates with Lighting Designers, Scenic Designers, Head Electrician, and Technical Director to design, plan, cost, and build show-specific integrated scenic lighting elements and effects.
  • Coordinate with the Technical Director to plan, schedule, and install electrics into scenic elements.
  • Provide final documentation of set electrics including hookups and schematics.
  • Support set electrics during rehearsals and tech and during changeovers.
  • May work alongside electricians and overhires to hang, focus, and strike as needed.
  • Support Electrics Department with post-season closing of the theater.

Job description

Ogunquit Playhouse, Ogunquit, Maine seeks electrician with Scenic Electrics experience to support Scene Shop with installation of electrical elements/effects within scenery & props for 2026 Season productions including The Producers & Small Town.

Looking for candidates with immediate availability to work through to the end of season on Sunday, November 8, 2026.

Ideal Candidate: Must be detail-oriented and remain focused in a fast-paced working environment. Prior theatrical electrician experience is required. Prior scene shop experience is a plus.

Job Duties/Expectations include (but are not limited to):
  • Reports to Technical Director
  • Works closely with the Lighting Designers, Scenic Designers, Head Electrician, and Technical Director to technically design, plan, cost, and build show-specific integrated scenic lighting elements and effects.
  • Coordinate with the Technical Director to plan, schedule, and install electrics into scenic elements.
  • Intermediate soldering skills (for LED tape, etc) required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of electrical theory and mathematics for calculating loads.
  • Provide final documentation of set electrics including hookups and schematics.
  • Technical support for set electrics during rehearsals and tech.
  • Execute installation and cabling for set electrics during changeover.
  • May be asked to work alongside electricians and overhires to hang/focus and strike as needed.
  • This position also supports Electrics Department with post-season closing of the theater.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Job requires the ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, and bend, stoop, or kneel while assisting actors, staff, and designers in execution of duties as assigned.
  • Job requires the ability to lift, carry, and move necessary equipment up and down stairs in varied lighting conditions.
  • Unconventional hours may be required. Must be able to work overnights for Tech Weeks (typically four 12-hr days) for each production.
Necessary Skills
  • Experience with Lightwright & Vectorworks.
  • Experience with low-voltage and wireless lighting systems (LED tape, 12V batteries, City Theatrical Multiverse DMX equipment, City Theatrical QolorFLEX Dimmers, RC4, etc.).

Position is a W2, $22/hr plus O/T and housing included.

Ogunquit Playhouse now offers Health insurance to all employees who are with the company for 120+ consecutive days and work at least 30 hours weekly, covering 75% of employee’s company-sponsored Health insurance premiums. Dental and Vision insurance will also be available at the employee’s expense. Employees who work the entire season will also accrue Earned Paid Leave up to 40 hours. Eligibility is based on the length of the contract. Shortening the length of that contract may affect eligibility.
