Technical Quality Engineer - PV Inverters
PV Service Contractor - Intellipro Professional Hybrid TX Office, Houston, TX, US
Salary Range: $95,000.00 To $120,000.00 Annually
The Company:
Sungrow North America is a leading provider of renewable energy solutions, specializing in the development and manufacturing of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage systems. The company offers a comprehensive range of products and services designed to optimize the performance and efficiency of solar power installations. Sungrow North America aims to provide sustainable and reliable energy solutions to meet the growing demand for clean power and is known for its commitment to innovation, high-quality standards, and exceptional customer service
The Position:
We are seeking a Technical Quality Engineer to support the Service Engineering team with data analysis, technical quality investigations, and rework (engineering change) rework document for Sungrow’s PV products.
This role is ideal for someone early in their engineering or quality career who enjoys analytical problem-solving, cross-functional teamwork, and hands‑on exposure to real‑world field issues. The TQ Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Technical Quality Engineering function through structured quality data analysis. Key duties include warranty performance tracking, spare‑parts consumption analysis, identification of emerging quality trends, and preparation of preliminary quality alerts for escalation to the CoE and Field Service teams.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Ownership and Data Analysis
- Own assigned technical quality issues from initial problem definition through validated technical closure.
- Analyze warranty tickets, field service reports, alarms, test results, serial numbers, failure rates, part consumption, and other available data to identify patterns and recurring risks.
- Distinguish isolated failures from process issues, component risks, product defects, and potential fleet or serial defects.
- Establish clear problem statements, affected populations, risk assessments, and evidence requirements.
- Maintain accurate issue records and provide specific updates that identify the action, owner, timing, risk, and next step.
RCA Tracking and Corrective Action
- Lead or support structured root-cause investigations using appropriate methods such as fault‑tree analysis, 5 Whys, Fishbone, data analysis, and engineering testing.
- Develop containment and corrective‑action plans with clear owners, due dates, validation criteria, and closure evidence.
- Coordinate with Engineering, CoE, suppliers, and Field Service to validate suspected causes and confirm that corrective actions address the failure mechanism.
- Track effectiveness after implementation and identify whether additional action, broader inspection, or fleet‑wide containment is required.
- Convert lessons learned into improved work instructions, troubleshooting guides, inspection criteria, and technical standards.
HQ Corrective Action and Engineering Change
- Prepare concise technical escalation packages for HQ Engineering and CoE, including evidence, failure trend, risk, affected population, containment, and requested decision.
- Drive timely technical follow‑up for ECO, ECR, firmware, parameter, material, design, or process improvements.
- Coordinate local technical validation of proposed solutions and report field results to the responsible engineering teams.
- Track open HQ actions to technical closure and confirm that released solutions are understood and implemented in the field.
Serial Defect and Customer Technical Communication
- Support the evaluation of potential serial defects using failure rate, affected serial range, production period, field evidence, customer impact, and risk.
- Prepare the technical content for Serial Defect Letters, customer responses, inspection plans, and containment communications.
- Clearly define the issue description, affected products, risk, customer actions, Sungrow actions, technical rationale, and follow‑up requirements.
- Coordinate technical review with Senior TQ Engineer, Service, PM, CoE, HQ Engineering, Legal, and management as required.
- Track customer feedback and the required response timeline, including the 10‑day response expectation when applicable.
Field Technical Support and Validation
- Provide technical guidance to assigned TQ Service Technicians, Field Service, vendors, and customers when a field issue exceeds the approved work instruction or requires engineering judgment.
- Respect the assigned TQ Service Technician as the first owner of the immediate onsite technical issue, including onsite troubleshooting, evidence collection, status reporting, and ESR completion.
- Define technical scope, test requirements, work instructions, acceptance criteria, and validation plans for containment or rework activities.
- Review field photos, logs, measurements, test results, and service reports to confirm technical completion and solution effectiveness.
- Provide remote support during off‑hours or night‑shift work when escalation is required and local CoE support is unavailable.
Cross Functional Coordination and Documentation
- Work with Rework Program Management and Coordinators on technical scope, priority, material requirements, resource assumptions, and execution constraints.
- Coordinate with Supply Chain and Materials teams to forecast technical material demand based on field trends, project population, and expected failure rate.
- Support vendor training and technical readiness without assuming ownership of vendor scheduling, commercial negotiation, or overall rework progress.
- Maintain complete technical records, including problem statements, evidence, RCA, CAPA, test results, customer communications, and closure rationale.
- Participate in quality reviews, QBRs, lessons‑learned sessions, and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality, or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 1–2+ years of experience in solar, electrical engineering, quality, or related technical fields (PV experience strongly preferred).
- Mandarin speaking is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills with basic understanding of quality or engineering fundamentals.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Experience with Airtable is a plus.
- Ability to analyze issues, evaluate potential risks, and support problem‑solving efforts.
- Ability to participate in occasional off‑hours meetings with HQ or other regions.
- Ability to support multi‑tasking in a fast‑paced environment.
