Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Technical Project Manager to lead planning, coordination, and execution of complex engineering and technology initiatives in support of the FAA Enterprise Network Services (FENS) program.

In this role, you will guide multidisciplinary teams through the full project lifecycle, ensuring technical solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with FAA standards and mission objectives.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in technical project management or program leadership within engineering, IT, or infrastructure environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Engineering Management, Systems Engineering, Business Administration) or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of degree.
  • Proven success leading complex, mission-critical technical projects, including enterprise IT and network-based initiatives.
  • Experience managing projects involving global telecommunications networks, SD-WAN, MPLS, enterprise LAN/WAN and security architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end planning, coordination, and execution of complex technical and engineering projects supporting FAA operations and NAS modernization.
  • Manage projects involving global telecommunications networks, including SD-WAN and MPLS, and secure enterprise network architectures.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and performance baselines.
  • Serve as the primary interface between technical teams, program management, vendors, and FAA stakeholders.
  • Coordinate cross-functional collaboration across software, hardware, network, cybersecurity, and systems engineering teams.
  • Manage project scope, deliverables, and timelines using Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid methodologies.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, concise status reports, technical briefings, and milestone reviews to FAA leadership.
  • Identify, document, and mitigate technical, operational, and integration risks.
  • Ensure compliance with FAA AMS, FAR, cybersecurity, and internal quality standards.
  • Oversee configuration management, change control, and technical documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support vendor coordination, contract tracking, and verification of technical deliverables.
  • Facilitate requirements definition, test planning, system integration, and operational readiness reviews.
  • Drive continuous improvement by promoting best practices, process standardization, and efficiency across engineering programs.

Technical Project Manager | Telecom - FENS


Role Overview:


Peraton is seeking an accomplishedTechnical Project Managerto lead the planning, coordination, and execution of complex engineering and technology initiatives in support of the FAA Enterprise Network Services (FENS) program. In this role, you will guide multidisciplinary teams through the full project lifecycle, ensuring technical solutions are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with FAA standards and mission objectives.


The ideal candidate brings a strong blend of technical depth and project leadership, with the ability to translate complex system architectures—includingglobal telecommunications and network infrastructures (SD-WAN, MPLS, and enterprise LAN/WAN environments)—into executable, results-driven project plans. Exceptional communication, leadership, and analytical skills are essential to drive collaboration across engineering, IT, logistics, vendors, and FAA stakeholders.


Work Location:


This position is 100% on-site, primarily located in Herndon, VA, with an alternate work location available in Bowie, MD. Candidates must be able to work on-site at one of these locations based on program requirements.


What You’ll Do

Position Requirements:



  • U.S. citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain aPublic Trust clearance.

  • 10+ yearsof experience in technical project management or program leadership within engineering, IT, or infrastructure environments.

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree inEngineering Management, Systems Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field is required (Can accept 4 additional years of experience in lieu degree).

  • Proven success leading complex, mission-critical technical projects, including enterprise IT and network-based initiatives.

  • Experience managing projects involvingglobal telecommunications networks, includingSD-WAN, MPLS, enterprise LAN/WAN and Security architectures.

  • Experience in Driving integration and operational readiness of Enterprise Network Management Tools (e.g., Science Logic, SolarWinds, Splunk, NetScout, Datadog) to maintain full asset visibility and real-time security monitoring.

  • Experience in Overseeing design and deployment of TIC 3.0, Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), secure cloud connectivity, External Boundary Protection, Hosting Infrastructure and IT/OT integration.

  • Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools such asMicrosoft Project, Jira, Confluence, or equivalent platforms.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintainrisk registers, mitigation strategies, performance dashboards and Reporting SLA & KPI.

  • Capability to lead technical reviews, validation efforts, and post-implementation assessments.


Desired Qualifications:



  • Experience supportingFAA programs, National Airspace System (NAS) initiatives, or other federal aviation or transportation systems.

  • PMP, PMI-ACP, or similar project management certification.

  • Professional certifications such asCSEP (Certified Systems Engineering Professional)orITIL Foundation.

  • Technical Certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS.

  • Experience withFAA NextGen, air traffic management systems, or large-scale federal modernization efforts.

  • Familiarity withAgile, DevSecOps, or hybrid delivery environments supporting engineering or IT integration programs.

  • Experience withcost estimation, resource planning, and contract oversight.

  • Background incybersecurity compliance, infrastructure modernization, safety-critical systems, or highly regulated environments.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
