Job summary

UL Solutions in the United States seeks a Technical Project Manager, Renewable Energy Forecasting, to lead real-time meteorological and power forecasting solutions for wind and solar stakeholders. The role interfaces with meteorologists, data scientists, software engineers, and energy experts in a DaaS environment.

The position is full-time and can be hybrid (3 days on-site) at any UL office in the United States, or fully remote if not near a UL office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field.
  • 3+ years of customer-facing project management in energy/tech.
  • Experience with energy stakeholders (asset owners, utilities, grid operators, traders).
  • Understanding of forecasting, energy markets, grid operations, or meteorological data applications.
  • Experience with Jira or Azure DevOps and other PM tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full project lifecycle, including scoping, budgeting, contracting, implementation, and launch.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical specs, project plans, and actionable work for internal teams.
  • Coordinate cross-functional resources to meet performance, reliability, latency, and service needs.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, backlogs, and status reports.
  • Identify, communicate, and mitigate project risks, issues, and dependencies.
  • Lead customer meetings, project reviews, and technical discussions as a trusted advisor.
  • Support forecast system enhancements, infrastructure initiatives, and customer customizations.
  • Contribute technical expertise to proposals, PoCs, and business development.
  • Build strong customer relationships through proactive communication.
  • Provide after-hours support during critical events or incidents.

Job Description

The Technical Project Manager, Renewable Energy Forecasting, leads the successful delivery of real-time meteorological and power forecasting solutions for wind and solar asset owners, utilities, grid operators, energy traders, and other energy market participants.

Operating within a Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) environment, this role serves as the primary interface between customers and a cross-functional team of meteorologists, data scientists, software engineers, IT professionals, and renewable energy subject matter experts.

The ideal candidate combines strong project management and customer relationship skills with an understanding of renewable energy operations, forecasting technologies, and data-driven decision making. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines, including meteorology, power systems, software engineering, and machine learning, translating complex technical concepts into clear business and operational outcomes for customers and stakeholders.

  • Contribute technical expertise to customer proposals, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and business development activities.
  • Build strong customer relationships through exceptional service and proactive communication.
  • Provide occasional after-hours support during critical customer events, system implementations, or operational incidents.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Energy Systems, or another quantitative discipline.
  • 3+ years of customer-facing project management experience in renewable energy, utilities, energy services, software, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience working directly with renewable energy asset owners, utilities, grid operators, energy traders, or other energy industry stakeholders.
  • Understanding of renewable energy forecasting, energy markets, grid operations, or meteorological data applications.
  • Familiarity with artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts used in forecasting systems, including model performance evaluation and data-driven decision making.
  • Experience using project and work management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar platforms).
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, problem-solving, and risk management skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with renewable energy forecasting, energy trading, SCADA systems, APIs, cloud platforms, or operational data integration.
  • Experience working within Data-as-a-Service (DaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), or other technology-enabled service delivery environments.
Total Rewards

The estimated salary range for this position is $95,000 - $115,000 and is based on multiple factors, including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, as well as other factors. This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 10% of the base salary. This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country. We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday and personal days (totaling 12 days), and sick time off (72 hours).
