Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of complex engineering and manufacturing projects.
  • Serve as primary customer contact for assigned projects, communicating technical and commercial aspects.
  • Manage change orders, scope changes, and technical clarifications with cost/schedule impacts.
  • Define objectives, budgets, schedules, milestones, and deliverables from contracts and specs.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules with activities, dependencies, and critical paths.
  • Monitor progress, identify delays and risks, and implement recovery actions.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities across Engineering, Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Sales.
  • Lead project meetings and ensure clear communication of responsibilities and actions.
  • Provide financial oversight including budgets, costs, forecasts, and exposures.
  • Review designs and specs to ensure alignment with project scope.
  • Provide technical leadership for system engineering and packaging of complex systems.
  • Create and review BOMs and coordinate technical interfaces across disciplines.

Job Overview

Position Summary

The Technical Project Manager is responsible for leading the technical and commercial execution of complex engineered projects from contract award through design, manufacturing, testing, delivery, and project closeout. This role serves as a primary point of contact for assigned customers and provides overall project leadership to ensure contractual requirements, technical specifications, schedule commitments, quality expectations, and financial objectives are achieved.

The Technical Project Manager works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Procurement, Quality, Sales, and other functional teams to coordinate project execution, resolve technical and operational challenges, manage project risk, and drive timely decision-making.

As a senior-level project professional, this position is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, exercise sound technical and commercial judgment, manage multiple priorities, and provide leadership across highly complex or strategically important projects.

Salary

$99,000/yr - $143,000/yr

  • Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and successful completion of complex engineering and manufacturing projects.
  • Serve as the primary customer contact for assigned projects, maintaining effective communication regarding technical requirements, schedules, deliverables, documentation, project status, and commercial matters.
  • Manage customer change orders, scope changes, technical clarifications, and required project documentation while evaluating impacts to cost, schedule, and contractual commitments.
  • Establish project objectives, budgets, schedules, milestones, and deliverables by reviewing contracts, proposals, technical specifications, customer requirements, and project plans.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules by defining project phases, activities, dependencies, resource requirements, milestones, and critical-path activities.
  • Monitor project performance against established schedules and proactively identify delays, risks, constraints, and recovery actions necessary to support on-time delivery.
  • Coordinate cross-functional project activities involving Engineering, Planning, Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Lead project meetings and ensure responsibilities, priorities, deliverables, decisions, and action items are clearly communicated and followed through to completion.
  • Maintain financial oversight of assigned projects by monitoring budgets, actual costs, commitments, forecasts, and potential cost exposures.
  • Evaluate the cost and schedule impact of engineering changes, customer requests, manufacturing constraints, and other changes to project scope.
  • Identify and manage technical, commercial, schedule, and execution risks and develop appropriate mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Prepare and communicate project status reports, including schedule performance, financial performance, technical issues, risks, customer concerns, and recommended actions.
  • Review product designs, technical specifications, customer requirements, applicable standards, and performance requirements to ensure alignment with project scope.
  • Provide technical leadership and coordination for the system engineering and packaging of pumping, vaporizing, and other complex engineered systems.
  • Prepare, review, and/or coordinate Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), technical documentation, and engineering deliverables as required.
  • Select mechanical components and prepare or coordinate supporting technical documentation and engineering justification.
  • Create, review, and modify bills of materials (BOMs) for complex systems and engineered equipment.
  • Coordinate technical interfaces between mechanical, process, piping, instrumentation, electrical, controls, manufacturing, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical support to Sales, Manufacturing, field/site personnel, and customers regarding existing equipment, project requirements, and technical issues.
  • Facilitate resolution of complex technical and project execution issues, escalating critical matters when appropriate while providing recommended solutions.
  • Maintain accurate project records, documentation, schedules, cost information, correspondence, and other project data.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project execution, engineering processes, cost control, scheduling, and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure project activities comply with applicable company policies, quality requirements, safety procedures, contractual requirements, and federal, state, and industry regulations.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization, from shop-floor personnel and technical specialists to customers and senior executives.
  • Provide guidance and technical/project leadership to less experienced project managers, engineers, and project team members as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position provides mentorship to fellow departments which work in collaboration.

Work Environment

This job operates in both a professional office and an industrial manufacturing environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners, filing cabinets, etc... as well as exposure to small to large scale manufacturing equipment within the facility. The role will not be expected to operate manufacturing machinery.

Physical Demands

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred. Equivalent combination of education and extensive relevant experience may be considered.
  • Typically 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, technical project management, manufacturing, or a related industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience independently managing complex, high-value, or technically challenging engineered projects through multiple phases of execution.
  • Experience in the cryogenic, industrial gas, natural gas, energy, process equipment, or related industry highly preferred.
  • Experience working within large manufacturing operations, engineered-to-order environments, construction sites, or industrial facilities preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing project budgets, schedules, change orders, technical requirements, customer relationships, and cross-functional project teams.
  • Working knowledge of engineered equipment, mechanical systems, piping systems, instrumentation, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and/or packaged process systems highly desired.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, technical specifications, contracts, and customer requirements.
  • Experience with engineering/design software such as AutoCAD 2D highly desired.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management certification highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced project management and project execution skills with the ability to independently lead multiple complex projects and priorities.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to understand multidisciplinary engineering systems and their integration into complete equipment packages.
  • Strong financial and commercial awareness, including project budgeting, forecasting, cost control, change management, and risk assessment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project or comparable project scheduling software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical and project information clearly.
  • Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to manage expectations, resolve concerns, and maintain productive professional relationships.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to identify project risks and develop practical mitigation and recovery strategies.
  • Ability to influence and coordinate cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.
  • Strong time-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision.
