Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. seeks a Senior Autonomy Engineer - Technical Program Manager to own the delivery of autonomous machine programs. You will lead a team of autonomy engineers and work with cross-functional teams to create multi-generational strategies and solutions.

You will manage scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk across global teams, develop roadmaps, and ensure successful customer outcomes. This role requires strong program leadership in a production environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science required.
  • Experience leading complex technical programs across multiple disciplines.
  • Familiarity with autonomous systems and product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Own overall program execution for an autonomous machine application, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and architects to translate customer needs into development plans.
  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps and delivery schedules for multi-generational technology.
  • Lead NPI deliverables, including estimating time and cost and managing program risks.
  • Coordinate with global engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver new products within Caterpillar’s technology portfolio.

A Senior Autonomy Engineer - Technical Program Manager

Own delivery of vehicle-level autonomous machine programs. They lead a team of autonomy engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver multi-generational autonomous strategies and solutions.

What You Will Do
  • Own overall program execution for an autonomous machine application, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, and risk management.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, process partners, and application architects to translate customer and business needs into executable development plans.
  • Develop and maintain product roadmaps, integrated program plans, and delivery schedules.
  • Complete NPI deliverables, including estimating project time and cost, managing program risks, and leading stakeholder reviews.
  • Collaborate with global engineering and cross functional teams to deliver new products within our scalable technology portfolio.
What You Have
  • Program Leadership ‑ Proven ability to lead complex technical programs involving multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Experience managing competing priorities across multiple simultaneous initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of project planning, estimation, resource management, and execution.
Communicating Complex Concepts
  • Work with a global team to communicate the Why’s and develop the How’s of agreed features.
  • Clearly document system details and ensure understanding with each subsystem team.
  • Communicate tradeoffs and decisions with stakeholders at multiple levels.
Technical Excellence
  • Proven ability to work on production products through design, implementation, customer rollout, and support.
  • Knowledge and experience with Autonomous Systems, preferably a Cat Command system such as Command for Hauling, Dozing, etc.
Effective Communications
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques.
  • Effectively communicate ideas and program tradeoffs to team members and stakeholders.
  • Clearly explains project goals to team members, keeps leadership informed of progress, and shares relevant updates with external partners.
  • Uses data-driven arguments, active listening, and tailored messaging to persuade stakeholders and achieve consensus.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science curriculum.
Consideration for Top Candidates
  • Experience with product lifecycle and multi-generational technology products.
  • Experience leading technology or product development teams.
  • Experience with Caterpillar technology products.
  • Experience with mining, construction, or agricultural machines and methods.
  • Familiarity with product development, system engineering, and safety frameworks.
Additional Information

This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Dallas, TX office. Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position. Visa sponsorship is NOT available with this position. This position will require up to 10% travel #LI.

Summary Pay Range

$112,710.00 - $183,140.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
