Job summary

AspenTech is seeking a mid-level Product Owner for the Manufacturing and Supply Chain group to shape next-generation software for refinery and petrochemical value chains.

You will blend software development, mathematical modeling, and optimization with a product mindset, working with Product Management, Owners, and Designers to define features, use cases, and workflows that address real customer needs.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in relevant fields; advanced degree preferred.
• 5+ years of SAFe Agile or similar framework experience.
• Experience in modeling, control, and optimization software.
• Strong background in numerical methods and mathematical modeling.
• Familiarity with refinery, petrochemical, or chemical processes.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

The Role

AspenTech is looking for a mid level Product Owner to join our Manufacturing and Supply Chain (MSC) group, contributing to the next generation of solutions that help refinery and petrochemical companies optimize their value chain.

In this role, you will combine strong software development, mathematical modeling, and optimization skills with a product-oriented mindset. You will collaborate closely with Product Management, Product Owners, and Product Designers to help define features, use cases, and product workflows, and ensure the development team delivers functionality that aligns with real customer needs.

This position is ideal for a developer who enjoys understanding how customers use the software, how their workflows operate, and how to translate that understanding into clear technical design and high-quality implementation.

Your Impact

• Design, develop, maintain, and support new and existing software features in AspenTech’s MSC suite.
• Provide technical leadership for software development projects related to mathematical modeling and optimization.
• Collaborate with Product Management to define feature requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
• Contribute to feature and use‑case development, ensuring technical feasibility and alignment with customer workflows and business priorities.
• Understand refinery, petrochemical, and supply chain workflows and translate them into practical, implementable software solutions.
• Participate in SAFe Agile events—PI Planning, Backlog Refinement, Iteration Planning, and System Demos—supporting clear communication and team alignment.
• Help improve the usability and clarity of product features through iterative feedback and design refinement.
• Support maintenance, debugging, and enhancement of the current codebase with a focus on stability and long‑term sustainability.
• Provide technical support to product management, product marketing, services, and customer support on customer activities.

What You’ll Need

• BS or MS in Chemical Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or related fields (advanced degree preferable).
• 5 plus years of experience with SAFe Agile or similar Agile frameworks is a must.
• Experience in the development of software for modeling, control and optimization of chemicals, oil & gas, and/or refining processes is a strong plus.
• Strong background in numerical methods, mathematical modeling, and optimization.
• Solid computer programming and software development experience, with specific experience in C#/.NET. Experience with C++ is a plus.
• Understanding of refinery, petrochemical, or chemical processes, including planning, scheduling, optimization, supply chain, or distribution workflows is a strong plus.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.
