Job summary

STR is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Graphic Design & Technical Communications Intern to support the development of compelling visuals for complex engineering and technical projects. The role focuses on creating and refining technical presentations in PowerPoint and translating complex information into accessible graphics.

Ideal candidates are curious, collaborative, and eager to learn from engineers and scientists, while maintaining STR's branding across materials and templates.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design or a related field.
• Must be a U.S. citizen due to regulatory requirements.
• Proficiency in PowerPoint including layouts, charts, and formatting.
• Working knowledge of Word and document formatting.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
• Strong visual communication and typography skills.
• Ability to organize complex information and communicate visually.
• Curiosity to learn unfamiliar technical topics and collaborate with researchers.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and attention to branding standards.
• A portfolio demonstrating graphic design, presentation design, or information visualization.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and refine professional PowerPoint presentations for technical audiences.
• Collaborate with engineers and researchers to translate complex concepts into visuals.
• Create diagrams, infographics, and other visual elements that communicate technical information clearly.
• Transform dense content into well-organized, compelling slides.
• Improve presentations for clarity, readability, and visual consistency.
• Ensure materials adhere to STR's visual identity and brand standards.
• Develop graphics for internal communications, signage, and branding.
• Maintain branded templates and reusable design assets.
• Prepare graphics for digital and print applications.
• Balance technical accuracy with visual clarity and manage multiple assignments.
