Job summary

Rockwell Automation in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a Technical Leader to guide architectural designs and drive agile practices within the IT CPQ team. You will manage the engineers, coach code reviews, and remain hands-on to help develop scalable solutions while removing blockers and delivering on the roadmap.

You will partner with Product Owners to align strategy with the technical stack, set standards for CI/CD, testing, and deployment, and advocate for best practices across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required; we will not sponsor visas.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team accountable for the design and architectural work of the product.
  • Guide CI/CD and automated deployment practices for the project.
  • Manage technical design and architecture decisions at team/product level.
  • Coach the technical team, especially on code reviews.
  • Be a hands-on working leader who developers solutions and removes blockers.
  • Identify and remove technical impediments.
  • Align roadmaps with Product Owners and the technical stack strengths.
  • Advise with Product Owners on story creation and acceptance criteria, and communicate tradeoffs with Designers.
  • Push for better technical solutions and challenge the status quo.
  • Provide roadmaps for implementing software engineering best practices.
  • Share responsibility for building reusable and scalable components.
  • Monitor IT system performance to determine cost/productivity levels.
  • Develop budgets and monitor expenditures.
  • Meet with IT staff on hardware/software impact of changes.
  • Research and implement strategic technological solutions.
  • Consider multiple viewpoints in decision making.

Job Description

As Technical Leader (TL), you will support the architectural designs and execution of goals for their team. You value simplicity, diversity of thought and are unafraid to challenge constraints and standard procedures to achieve the desired Agile design in partnership with additional subject matter experts. You'll manage all team members to create a modular, scalable solution that addresses/incorporates future architectural changes and designs. You will guide the teams engineering practices in test-driven development, continuous integration, and automated deployment. You are a hands-on people manager who coaches their team and removes roadblocks for the team to be successful. You will report to the Director, IT CPQ. You will work Hybrid in Milwaukee, WI.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with technical subject matter experts, you will lead the team accountable for the design and technological architecture of the product
  • Guide project teams on technology strategy related to coding practices, continuous integration and automated deployment
  • Manage the technical design of the product and make architecture decisions at a team and product level
  • Coach the technical team, specifically with code reviews
  • Be a hands-on, working leader who engages in coding to help the team to develop solution and solve all surfacing problems at hand
  • Identify and remove technical impediments
  • Work with Business Product Owner(s) to align the roadmap with strengths and opportunities within the technical stack
  • Be an advisor with the Product owner(s) in story creation and acceptance criteria, and communicate tradeoffs with Designers
  • Always look for better ways of solving technical problems and designing the solution, not afraid of challenging the status quo
  • Provide the team a roadmap for implementing software engineering practices for higher code quality
  • Share responsibility with Product Owner(s) for building reusable and scalable components
  • Monitor performance of information technology systems to determine cost and productivity levels
  • Develop budget and monitor expenditures
  • Meet with IT staff to determine impact of proposed changes to hardware or software on computer
  • Research and implement technological strategic solutions
  • Seek out and embrace relevant perspectives when assessing a situation or a decision; demonstrate clear understanding of multiple viewpoints

The Essentials - You Will Have:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required - We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening
  • Ability to travel up to 25%

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of management experience.
  • Degree in CS, MIS, Software Engineering, or equivalent engineering/technical discipline
  • Experience with a commercial facing portfolio with $5B+ in revenue
  • Understanding of web-based application development and management experience
  • Bring insight into newest technologies and trends
  • Familiar with Cloud/DevOps environments including Azure DevOps
  • Experience in Agile Development, with SAFe experience
  • Understand relationship with Product Owner, Design Lead and rest of technical team
  • Experience managing technical priorities within the Backlog
  • Experience managing the overall delivery through the aligned team
