Job summary

PeopleTec seeks a Technical Lead / Senior Engineer in Huntsville, AL to guide the technical development of an on-premise AI system for a flight simulator. You will lead a small team, set architecture, and drive AI/ML and software integration with safety controls.

You will perform hands-on engineering, conduct technical reviews, and communicate tradeoffs to the customer while mentoring engineers across AI/ML, software, systems, cybersecurity, and aviation SMEs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field; equivalent professional or military experience may substitute.

Technical Lead / Senior Engineer

PeopleTec is currently seeking a Technical Lead / Senior Engineer to support our Huntsville, AL location.

PeopleTec is seeking a Technical Lead / Senior Engineer in Huntsville, AL, to lead the technical development of an on-premise AI system supporting the H-1 flight simulator. You will lead a small engineering team, establish the system architecture and technical baseline, guide AI and software development, and make technical decisions related to system performance, integration, and safety. You will also perform hands‑on engineering work as needed.

Duties

• Lead the system architecture and technical baseline for the AI, software, compute, and simulation‑integration components.


• Guide selection, development, integration, and deployment of speech, language-model, and supporting software capabilities for on‑premise operation.


• Lead development of AI safety and validation controls that prevent unsafe or invalid outputs from affecting the simulator.


• Perform hands‑on engineering work in areas such as speech and command processing, model adaptation, and system performance.


• Lead technical reviews, troubleshooting, and readiness decisions; explain technical decisions and tradeoffs to the customer.


• Mentor engineers and coordinate technical work across AI/ML, software, systems, cybersecurity, and aviation subject matter experts.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Experience

• Preferred experience range: 10-12 years building software or AI‑enabled systems, including technical leadership of teams delivering speech or language‑model applications. Demonstrated technical and leadership ability will be considered regardless of total years of experience.


• Hands‑on experience designing and delivering on‑premise AI/ML systems, including language‑model serving, retrieval‑augmented generation, and real‑time speech or language pipelines.


• Hands‑on experience fine‑tuning speech or language models and evaluating their performance using defined measures and held‑out data.


• Experience delivering software or AI systems in a DoD or similarly controlled environment, including secure development, vulnerability management, and software supply‑chain requirements.


• Ability to lead technical reviews, explain complex engineering decisions to customers, and make technical decisions under schedule pressure.


• Ability to travel for technical reviews, integration testing, and demonstrations


• Must be a U.S. Citizen


• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent relevant professional or military experience may substitute for a degree.

Desired Skills

• Experience with HLA or DIS and flight‑simulator or training‑device integration.


• Experience with schema‑constrained generation, ontologies, or other methods for validating AI‑generated outputs.


• Experience with preference optimization or other methods for improving models using human feedback.


• Experience with AI/ML security, adversarial testing, or OpenTelemetry‑based system observability.


• Prior experience developing AI instructors, training assistants, or similar AI applications.
